In continuing with the current tyre theme....

They do many things. One issue with an overtyred car is the loss of progressive breakaway laterally. In a straight line the best thing to improve grip is lowering tyre pressure.

Slightly wider tyres at the same pressure make a wider but shorter contact patch.

It all rather complex anyway and mechanical keying to the surface is the main method of generating grip. This is often achieved by softer compounds, hence tyre choice is more important than width in the context of this thread.

Which brings us nicely onto..... any other recommendations?
The tyre will need to be decent in the rain what ever they are as its a main car too at the end if the day. :)

Can you get kumho ecsta le sport in that size?

I had a set previously and they were very impressive for the price, I've had a fair few of the tyres mentioned in this thread to compare them to

I'll repeat my Pirelli P Zero Nero recommendation. Simply as I had them on 16s, on a 306, and in that exact size. They were faultless.

O Rly,

Other than those or you basically have Vredsteins.
Not a massive plethora of choice is it.

I have tried the below:
PE2's = Great but no longer available
Uniroyal RS2's = Pretty good, very good in wet but again NLA
Bf goodrich G-Grip = Lol not so grippy.... If it wasnt for the above two i'd have thought i need an LSD or something
T1R's = I actually got rid of these very wuick as they were ****
Falken ze912= ok just average
All of the semi decent go-to tyres are slowly being discontinued too.
There is no premium tyre from Michelin any more in this size for example.

I am having this exact problem and was about to make a thread when I saw this, I currently have the god awful Toyo T1R's and don't know where to go next but I do need to move swiftly on.

Buy 17" wheels, fit whatever brakes you want then, and more tyre choice.

Or go for aftermarket 15" wheels, like TD Pro Race 1.2 then run Xantia discs with 406 Brembo calipers, means you can still buy cheap tyres.

I felt like I was running out of brakes on track with my 306 Rallye, that was with DS2500 pads, Brembo discs and R888s. Never faded but had to use a lot of pedal pressure so lost some adjustability on the limit and overall braking performance wasn't as good as it could have been, ended up triggering the ABS occasionally when the wheels weren't locked.

On the road, the standard brakes will be fine on a boosted car, never had trouble with my Xsara VTS S/C with the standard setup.

When I was unable to get PE2s I got some Continental Premium Contact 2 which were good, didn't quite have the feel/stiffness of the PE2 and a little less grip. PE2 are the uber tyre though, so the Continentals weren't utter gash!

I havw never understood t1r love.
I dont see how they csn be considered any better than all the rest of the mid range fillers
I think that falken 912 were far better and i think i even got them for cheaper

that's right, disregard actual reviews being pedantic is much more fitting to the forum

Sorry I'm confused. You have linked to a tyre which IMO performed badly in the 'actual reviews' carried out by people without purchase justification syndrome.

I ignored the 'actual reviews' from users and just looked at how badly it did on the most recent tests carried out. This isn't being pedantic, it is trying to be subjective.

People will claim all sorts of rubbish about something they have spent money on to make them feel better.

You didn't answer his point, it came consistently bottom, behind other manufactures legacy tyres. How is it a good recommendation? Or is that the point you're trying to make; that informed, factual reporting should be disregarded in favor of internet hearsay, is that how you ended up with a CTS?

edit* Beaten

I read the reviews and bought them and I wasn't disapointed mr kumho didn't write them did he

Awaits janesy b to contribute with some actual ownership experiance rather than just chiming in

is that how you ended up with a CTS?

Other than you trying to cause an argument because you have nothing better to do, what has my old car got to do with this conversation?

What did you compare them to?

I imagine Fred Flintstone wasn't disappointed with his stone wheels either.
