I used to live and work in Suffolk. I worked with some of the most talented engineers I'm sure I'll ever come across in my life.

When someone made good progress on something, one of the jokes was someone would say "be careful, you're in danger of making progress!".

Now I've used this phrase twice, once in London and once in Leeds. And both times no one got the joke or even knew what I was talking about.

Is it a Suffolk thing, or have you heard this saying before?

It's a Suffolk thing, I've had the same confused reaction when I've said it to people...

Really? Really?

It's a Suffolk thing and I refer you to my second point once more.

Why such a dim view of engineers in Suffolk?

I've never heard that saying before, but I'd get the meaning if someone said it to me. In fact, I might use that myself. :p

It is actually cryptic, work hard, be fair, treat all equally, strive to be your best and then you will understand the true nature of it's crypticism.
