Posted this in here and motherboards section hope thats ok, looking to get this sorted :(

'Hi all long time no see, yes i've calmed down from my rant last time i was here (appologies stulid)

Im having dramas with gaming online for the past 10days or so. When gaming i will get massive lag and in most cases a disconect. I've been onto bt four times now and they said everything is fine and i've tryed every fix possable they have thrown my way.

This now leads me to think theres some form of fault with the mobo or windows perhaps? I got on the phone to my local pc shop to ask for help testing to see if theres an issue with the ethernet port he said do a speedtest i did gave him what i got, 26ping 23meg dl 3up and he said theres probs no problem with it and that an ethernet port either works or does not work :\ Im sure theres more to it than that. I was going to update the bios (f7 for my board the g1 sniper m5) but theres nothing on the notes about the LAN or ethernet ports so it seems pointless.

Theres an issue somwere there must be but i've no clue at all, could somone please help? :'('

Update the BIOS - always the first thing to do if you think it's a motherboard problem. Easy to do with the M5.

Do you have a wireless USB adapter you can use? Might help narrow things down if it works OK.

Have you tried pinging the servers you are connecting to with tracert? Are you being routed badly?

Is it all gaming servers on all games?

Is the lag constant, or does it just come on all of a sudden and then you get disconnected?

Have you made sure power saving features of your LAN device are set so that it cannot be put into sleep mode?

More information about what exactly you are doing and what exactly is happening would probably help people on here help you more.

Are there any other issues with the computer? Is internet browsing laggy? Can you stream youtube videos OK?

Cheers

I dont have one but when useing wireless devices (laptop phone) its fine for a whilst then slow as hell so im guessing its the same issuse, i'll try find one to lend tho

I've done both a local ping test and a ping test to google from the cmd thing and both came back perfect, i only play two games online atm, League of legends and call of duty it happens randomly and on both where i will be running around shooting stuff then it'll freeze and time will jump forward and im dead lol. With LoL a box comes up saying attempting reconnection then normally starts going again.

I dont know if this is of any relavence but on skype now where the signal bars were always green now there always yellow. The call also hangs up randomly then reconnects.

Youtube vids seem to be fine but i rarely go on youtube, somtimes loading pages can be slow too

You need to ping the servers you are connecting to ideally. Repeat often because if your problem is intermittent, pinging will return good results unless you catch it at the time when you experience lag.

Have you ran http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/ and then gone through the additional procedures at the end of the test?

Have you made sure you are using a good ethernet cable? Sometimes the points and cables can become worn, and the cable needs to be replaced.

Can you get another device to connect via ethernet and do some testing on it (perhaps a friends or relatives laptop)? This would help determine if it is your BT line or the LAN.

Have you ran something like malwarebytes and checked for spyware?

If you're on BT are you using a home hub? If so try disabling the wireless totally given you're wired anyway as by default the Hub is sharing your connection via its Openzone hotspot system. Probably nothing to do with it as this should only cause lag not disconnects but still worth trying.

Also switch ethernet ports if you can, in case there is a dodgy connection.

It's a pain but one thing you could consider is taking your comp to a mates house and seeing if the same happens there - separate the network from the PC to narrow your area of investigation down. If it's super-rare to happen though this can be a pain, especially if nothing happens so you don't know how long to keep testing for :(

Just ran the btwholesale test and diagnostics all is fine and no faults found it says. Cables a brand new one that came with the new hub5 two days ago. Will get the barnes laptop as shes got LoL on it and see what happens there and report back.

I dont actually have an anti virus just advanced system care, i dont download anything really so didnt feel i needed it, i'll download malwarebytes now and see if anything comes up. Just updated the bios too although i dont think it'll provide any reasults it was worth a try.
