Loads of cool people in this thread again.
PvP and PvE on WoW are both very good. WoW is still the leading MMO to date imo, people who talk down about it are the people who've played the trail till level 5 and decided it's 'crap' or people who haven't even played it at all.
or people who have played the game till high level & the inevitable onset of boredom, who have also played other MMOs and are critical of entertainment multimedia in general.
The PvE is quite tedious in the sense that its a grindfest, theres not much that can vary.
The PvP is a case of who has the best items wins, and is quite average as far as PvP goes.
Its still the leading MMO because it was marketed well and captured a market which had all been seduced by warcraft lore due to WC3's great success.
Its only really leading in terms of users and profit generated, theres nothing really new it brings to the ball game. Its actually quite a dull game all in all.
The storyline : poor, much better single player ones available
The combat : poor, not enough control or interaction
The community : halfy-halfy, in the old days it was possible to find decent people to make groups with who were friendly and a good laugh, but there was obvious morons too who took it too serious, I think most of these players came from FPS games like CS, which is where all these idiots seemed to have flourished. Nowadays theres not much of a community for new/returning players in WoW, everyones busy boosting alts or doing all the high lvl stuff.
The PvP : Id rather play a game with a proper PvP multiplayer, as in not a MMO. Any source game, any hl1mod, cod4, GTA online mod. Theres plenty, most of my beef with wow's pvp was my lack of control I had over my character.
You should get off your high horse, mines higher.
WoW is not the be all and end all of MMOs, its not got the epic battles of DAOC, the general magic of SWG(before it was ruined), and whatever else other MMOs had, as far as PvE goes its poor, Id rather play oblivion. Community, id rather live real life and use OcUK forums as a topup. PvP id rather player a more responsive and interactive game which is not a case of rinse repeat, where everybody plays differently and adapts to situations.
Its a jack of all trades, and a poor one at that.
