Iv got Virgin TV recently and its all hooked up to my basic surround sound. But the volume of there adverts is ridiculous!!! Apart from my ears I'm sure the flat above don't appreciate it either.

Is there any in-line volume normalisation that can be bought to put between my Virgin box and my amp?

Cheers

Short of using a few rack compressors (which would cost a bundle and not bode well for the movie) I'm not sure there's much you can do. I have exactly the same problem. IIRC there's a 24% increase during the ad breaks. ******* ridiculous :(.

What you're after is an AGC with limiter, your amp may have dynamic range control (although probably only applies for DTS or AC3 sources)

This can be done in software for free, or in hardware you could probably pick up a two channel unit for around £100 or so (cheap studio kit, which you would have to disable for films as it would sound awful)

Alternatively, pre-record everything and auto-skip the ads like my mediacentre does.
