I've just built myself a HTPC which I'm very happy with. Sadly those lovely people at Silverstone decided to put the CD/DVD bay right in front of the PCIe slot. This means I cant quite fit a 9 inch card in and if I could there is no way on earth I could get the cards power cable in.

I have considered taking a hacksaw to the CD/DVD drive and could then fit in the 8800gt card I have however I'd rather take the other option and try to find a cheap short card.

It has to be at least as powerful as the 8800 so I can have the odd game of WoW and it has to be quiet cheap, I'd rather not go over £50 if I can avoid it. If Possible it needs to be able to do custom resolutions which after looking through the ATI control panel last night I don't believe ATI can do.

Any recommendations are very much appreciated.

Looked at the 440 yesterday before posting and I'm not convinced of its performance compared to the 8800gt and its a bit pricey.

Thanks for the response though much appreciated.

If your case can accomodate a double slot card the GTS 450 may be a good idea. My Zotac one is under 8". I think it can do custom resolutions too.

Can be picked up on a popular auctionn site for around the £50 mark, maybe a little more.

Yeah, it seems the GT440 is 'slower' than the 8800. But I wouldn't imagine you'll get a new decent card for <£50

I think you could be right, I will pay more if I have to so if you have a suggestion for a more expensive card please feel free.
