I am looking to upgrade my current desktop machine. Currently specs: -

Core2Duo 6600
6Gb Ram
Li Lian case
Radeon HD 4800
2 x Dell 2407WP monitors
120Gb Crucial SSD
1Tb Storage drive

I am planning on a new motherboard, processor and memory. Although the PSU was a good quality one when bought it, it will now be due for a replacement. I will keep the case and the monitors.

Back in the days I used to game on my machines but really just need it to do a bit of everything now and do it quietly and efficiently.

For the basics I was thinking of:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £383.47 (includes shipping: £10.50)

I haven't include a PSU as I can source a BeQuiet Straight Power 11 550w for quite a good price. I also haven't included a new GPU. I am not sure if for me needs I really need a new one although I have seen some good prices on the PowerColor 8Gb 570.

I don't really have a budget but in my mind don't really want to spend more than £600 with longevity being the main aim.

OC also have a bundle with includes the 2600 and a M/B, Ram and an SDD which seems a reasonable price.

Any advice would be grateful

The bundle works out £10 cheaper, not £35 cheaper if you include the SSD actual price .

Rx 570 would be a cracking little card to !

PSU wise, Bequiet is a nice tier 2 unit if you can get it for a good price, or Formula units are highly recommended units on here for low price that's also tier 2

Even Ryzen 1400 would be a massive improvement over your Core 2 Duo system :)

And guessing your current SSD is sata 2 or running at sata 2 speed ?

The current SSD is also a fairly early model. I will have to check what it is. I suspect it might be worth changing that at the same time and also get something a little larger.

What would you recommend for a replacement SSD either a 256Gb or 512Gb.
