Just built a new computer with the spec shown below apart from the card is the XFX one.

Ok the computer boots up and into windows but starts to make a high pitch whining noise, i have put my head in the computer and as far as i can tell it is coming from the PSU but im not 100% sure. I have run memtest previously and all seems to work fine.

It is producing the error code:

BCCODE: 50

Im not sure what this means!

The weird thing is it boots into safe mode fine and doesnt make any noises!

Are these noises characteristic of a overlumbered PSU or a faulty one! I would have thought 650w was enough?

Could i have put too much load on one daisy chain? Although the two sata drives are connected on one and the fans on the other?

Desperate for help now as i dont know what to RMA?

I beleive it's the board, disable speedstep in the BIOS, my Gigabyte board does (did) the same thing, at the moment it is being RMA with the CPU.

Edit: Check the memory with mem-test as I had faulty memory on my setup, I ordered the same setup.

How come you RMA'd it if you knew how to fix it?

After recieving new memory I did stability testing all at stock and correct voltage and timmings ect, the system would restart with IBT and just over 1hr 15mins with prime, tested system with 2 sticks and 1 stick it would pass without any problems, soon as the third stick was installed the system would fail. In the end spoke to Ocuk and sent back the board and cpu for them to test.

Ok well i think ive turned off the speed step by disabling the CPU EIST!

But it is still squeeling like hell! I dont know what to do its driving me mad!

And as im writing this is has just frozen again about 2mins after boot up.

There are 2 options in the BIOS you need to disable for speedstep, can't remember the second one, change the voltage to manual rather than auto (I will check in a minute) Disable the Intel Turbo feature. Is the ram voltage set to 1.64v and check if your running latest BIOS.

If that fail try mem-testing your memory.

Edit: CIE & EIST to disable speedstep.

Ok the noise is gone thank you very much for that!

But it just crashed when searching for updates the exact same as before.

It says Profile DDR Voltage 1.5v

No probs, drove me nuts! :)

Pop back into the BIOS and doube check the voltage, increase to 1.64v max,

If that still courses problem mem test each module, failing that not sure what else to suggest :(

I may be being stupid but i cannot find where you can alter the voltage for the ram?

(By the way you have been a great help so far, i really apreciate it)

I think i may have found it under DRAM Voltage it says auto if i change it to 1.64v which if any higher the values go pink will this damage/reduce life of memory?

Whilst in the BIOS go into the M.I.T (MB Intelligent Tweaker), page down and you should see the voltage area, adjust DRAM Voltage.

Glad to be of some help :)

Just a thought, but do you have the latest BIOS installed on your mobo for it to properly recognize a D0 stepping processor?

If not then this could be what is causing your system to crash...

Right i found the option and changed it to 1.64v.

Such a shame but it still doesnt work it seems to crash just after accessing or trying to access windows update and it freezes completly mouse and keboard and visual.

My problem is, is that i cannot determine whether it is hardware or software related! Could ram cause these kind of problems? Or is a dodgy install of vista?

Also it doesnt boot into the pioneer drive F12 there is no option for it to be there so i cant get memtest to run but it does appear in the bios.

Keep the ideas coming they are great!

Ok how can i tell if this is the case and where can i get the latest bios?

Ok found the latest bios appears to be the F6 version do i install it in windows?

If you load up CPU-Z and click on the "Mainboard" tab, it should have your BIOS version listed under the BIOS section...

My UD5 came with F4 BIOS installed, and Gigabyte say you need at least F5 for D0 processors to be properly recognized..

You can download the latest BIOS from here...

I am pretty sure it flashed up F3 when i just booted it.

I have just downloaded the F6 bios how do i go about flashing it as i have never done this before.

It is an .exe file
