Hello :)

Ok so I made a thread recently but it didn't get much attention, basically my sharkoon fireglider has went bust and well, I'll just admit theres no fixing it.

I'm in need of a new mouse pretty urgently, but have a limited budget due to recent upgrades and well.. I just don't want to be spending stupid amounts on a mouse :p

I've looked around and looked at many specs and reviews but can't seem to come to a conclusion.. Razer was originally gonna be my choice but hearing numerous arguments that their customer service is awful and their products are pretty cheapily built, the Naga for instance.

By the way £50-60 is my top price point, still pretty pricey but.. hey

What I've been looking at so far is, and if anyone can gimme some feedback on these mice it'd be great :)

  • Logitech G9x ( really interested in this but heard its a claw grip? )
  • Logitech Mx518
  • Cyborg R.A.T. series ( theres a few different ones, can't decide )
  • Razer Deathadder

Previous to my Fireglider I was always a claw grip, but after using the Fireglider and getting used to a palm grip, I'd love not to go back. So if anyone could reccommend a good palm grip mouse too, would be much appreciated :)

Regards

Well if you compare the fireglider to the deathadder they are the same physically just different button layouts.

So if you found the comfort of the fireglider optimal then go for the deathadder but if you didn't find it that comfortable try something else.

Logitech G400 is the default palm grip reccomendation on here and you can't go wrong with that shape, its been around for generations and is well regarded.

Ive got the RAT 7 MMO, personally i love it can be tweaked and tuned as much as you could ever want from a mouse and although it doesnt look it is surprisingly comfortable, for reference I came from a mx1000

Yea.. Just worried about the reliability of the Deathadder, and if something does go wrong, I dont want the hassle of Razer's crappy customer services. Although if anyone has any further info on the Deathadder fire away :)

As with the G400, yea that looks like a nice grip, and a nice mouse, could you tell me why there is a £40 price difference ** No Competitor Naming ** from the mx518? Like is there a significant difference from the two?

Don't buy it on **** !

I won't be :p I was just using Amazon to show the price difference, will deffinitly be buying from OCUK.

Okay well when I get home I'll do a little more research, I will probably go with the G400, as its actually a successor to the MX518? ( I thought it was released prior to the MX518 ) plus I actually prefer the G400 design to the MX518

I'll just have to wait for it to come back into stock :)

In the meantime if anyone else has any other suggestions for mice, they would be very welcome.

The G400 is newer than the mx518 with 1000hz and the best sensor currently available.

The G400 design is perfect for the hybrid palm+fingertip grip users imo. I palm grip on the desktop and fingertip in games. I found the Deathadder a little too large myself, but if you have large hands it may be preferable.

The RAT mice use a Philips twin-eye sensor which suffers from the Z-axis bug (mouse moves slightly when you lift and put it back down).

Brilliant advice :) Thanks

Here's a wacky, oddball thought. You could just umm buy...... another Fireglider?

Umm.. No? :p I would only.. The G400 is £26 and the Fireglider is £20, so for £6 I'm getting a much more professional mouse, a much better rated and respected mouse, with a lot more support. Or I could buy the Fireglider, potentially run into the same problem again, with next to no help or support, aaand.. Then what, just buy another Fireglider? :D

Hi Petey

Yes its a pretty attractive and a very good functioning mouse, and comfortable too! I mean whilst mine worked I couldn't have asked for anything else, I didn't have any hiccups, no skipping or spazing out.

Mine lasted about 9 months, basically this thread explains the problem I had with the mouse: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18442575

I couldn't really tell you how it happened, I mean the laser works, everything looks physically fine, and I treated it well so.. Just bad luck I guess, I'd go back to it if it hadn't have happened so fast, and I'd not been informed about the G400 :p

But I wish you the best of luck with yours :)

I have the logitech G9x and play it for BF3, it's the best mouse I have had ever, you can't complain about it and the amount of profiles it has. Also different settings helps you get the right setting for what game you are playing, highly recommended for a cheap mouse :)

Miniox Noas 3200, only about £30. I got it because it's Custom PC's mouse of choice and absolutely love it.

At first looks this mouse looks really comfortable, I'll have to investigate.

Ooh really? See that's my main game genre.. FPS.. Would you say the G9x would be more claw or palm grip? It defo looks like a claw, but I've only seen pictures..

I would say its more claw grip than palm, I have used it for BF3 for a while now and it has made a big improvement with my gaming. Sounds a bit stupid but every little helps. I would say go for it, I have the C.O.D edition G9x mouse also the keyboard to go along with it. Only reason why I got the C.O.D edition was because they were on offer so couldn't argue with that :P

The Cyborg Rat's are good for palm gripping, I have a Rat 9 and its very comfortable.

You can adjust it but I haven't done much to it it was pretty spot on how it was out of the box.

Basically I've adjusted the thumb rest so the sniper button is under where my thumb rests and I've moved the palm rest back one step.

Not all the Rat's can be adjusted fully so take that into consideration. I think the Rat 3 for example cannot be adjusted at all.

Definetely more comfortable than apperance suggests, I thought all those gaps in the body of the mouse would make holding it for long periods painful but thats not the case.

And no competitor naming, what gives? I thought it was cool.

You`re right, the RAT3 can`t be adjusted. I`ve had mine for a while now and love it. Only complaint i have is the size, i have long fingers, could do with the palm rest being a bit longer.

Geez over the past day or so my mind has actually changed about this whole situation, see I've been using a little £5 mouse since my Fireglider went bust, and this mouse is small.. I mean... Freakin small..

But I used it so much and got so used to the claw grip before my Fireglider that over the past couple of days I've found it pretty easy to get back into the habit of claw gripping, and saying that... I kinda like it, you could say I'm bipolar with it.

So when it all boils down, its gonna be between the G400 or G9x..

G400 for the sheers number of positive reviews, rep and the price on OCUK.. Its a palm grip and looks sleek, also the technology and response in it seems to be up there.

G9x as it looks sexy IMO, to my understanding its more of a claw grip mouse but it comes with interchangeable grips, so if I decide to go palm then I can just change the grip I guess

And also with both of these mice I've got full support from Logitech on the off chance something goes wrong down the line.

I decided to just leave Cyborg and Razer alone. I figured its best to have a better mouse than a cooler name..

Well thankfully but not thankfully I'm broke atm, and the G400 is out of stock so it'll give me a bit of time to decide :)

And no competitor naming, what gives? I thought it was cool.
Yea I've been made aware of this, my apologies :(
