In Soviet Russia. Television watches YOU!

Typing this on a tablet, i'm amazed this isnt already a thing. This thing watches me to see if i'm looking at the screen so it keeps it unlocked, but of course its not too much of a conclusion to leap to that anonymous data capture could be happening In the background.

used to be very much that guy who kept blu tac on his laptops webcam, can't do that these days though since they started making cameras flush with the case.

It's not just Russia though, isn't the Xbox supposed to watch you too? To see how you react to adverts and your viewing patterns.

Tis just typical scaremongering, this whole thing has come from Samsung being quite open about the technology. It seems to have been spun into a bit of a scare story - OMG the TV is listening to me etc...

Watching or listening to you is not the problem itself, the issue is when the data is recorded and sent to a 3rd party.

They should not be doing this.

I love technology but am increasingly getting more annoyed at how everything needs to be smart or connected. When I turn a games console on, I would like to press start and play the game - not check for an internet connection, check for updates, sign in and so on. The same for TVs - what's wrong with just pressing the on/off button on your remote and choose the channel you want? Apps, gesture controls and most of these gimmicks for televisions (IMO) are ridiculous! Then there are fridges - do we really need smart fridges? What's next, smart toilets that tell you when you're running low on loo roll? Or one that automatically calls a plumber when it detects a blockage? God help us.

I seriously hope Samsung burns for this. The reason they do it is because they get away with it. Once we as consumers tell them to do one, they'll maybe think twice before shoehorning their BS down our throats.

I've owned exclusively Samsung tellies for at least a decade but unless they do some serious sucking up after this, I'm done.
