In the sticks = awful broadband. Anything I can do?

Agreed with the test socket. Plug it into that and see if the stats on that page show the downstream is improved at all?

Mine went from 1000 kbps to 2500 kbps on the test socket.

Will the phone still work if I do that?

Got a Speedtoucch ADSL filter box thing plugged into it.

Plug the filter into the test socket then the phone/router into the relevant sockets on the filter. Simples :)

If you have an NTE5 master socket then simply unscrew the bottom half and plug the filter et al into the test socket as shown above in the small picture by Zarf.

Hi chaps.

I have been searching around this forum but cannot find a definite answer. I am currently living in the sticks and my connection is quite frankly awful.

Haha! You think that's awful?! Think yourself lucky!! This is my BROADBAND speeds since my neighbour had his landline installed the other day.

I also live in the sticks like you and used to get about 80kb/s to 120kb/s on a good day. I'm struggling to do anything on the net at the moment - i've even resorted to turning images over 100x100px off when browsing the majority of the time to try and make it bareable. :(

MFrost, I kind of feel a little better know your speeds are beyond belief!

Anyway, have just plugged the router into the test socket and downloaded some rubbish from Steam. Same speeds. :(

I'm also suffering with slow broadband. I live approximately 7km from the nearest telephone exchange. There aren't really any credible alternatives either.

It can take several days for ADSL speeds to adjust if the sync speed is different.

What you need to do is this:

1) Check the sync speeds on the router page (you posted a screenshot in a previous post, it's under the 'Connection Speed' section).
2) Plug into the test socket.
3) check the sync speeds on the router page again. If the speed is the same then no dice i'm afraid. If the speed is notably higher on the test socket you have an internal wiring issues afaik. Normally caused by the bellwire.

Your download speeds will remain unchanged even if your speed syncs up faster on the test socket for several days

Ok chaps I have some news. :)

So, I plugged the ADSL filter box straight into the test socket yesterday as recommended.

I have just run speetest and the diagnostics on my router and have noticed some changes.

So my download speed has gone up by over a meg, and my line attenuation has dropped significantly. I assume this is good, the download speed is! :)

I assume this may still improve further? I am now definitely going to buy an accelerator now as I don't want to go cutting wires and need to make the socket faceplate neat again as it is looking a little messy at the moment.

Thanks to all your responses, and for the other chaps who have got slow speeds. Try the test socket! :D

Amazing difference. :)

Thought I would 'bench test' my speed on Steam, which is where I download a lot of stuff from.

Arma II demo is currently downloading at 330Kbps. That is nearly twice as fast as my maximum speed before!

Something still isn't right, at 15db attenuation you should be be getting near 8000kbps.

It's also odd that your upstream db is higher than downsteam it's usually the other way.

Maybe the line will adjust over the next few days but I would have expected a better jump.

The 15db may be a router error, 3680 kbps would be quite good for 57db attenuation.

There's definitely something wrong with the stats, the router is probably reporting it wrong.

Have you updated the firmware on your modem? You should try the DGTeam firmware.

Willing to try that bud. :)

Ok I am downloading the one for my router. How do I update the firware or is it all self explanatory when I run it?

Nice. Gief cookie for suggesting it? D:

Heh, read the Instructions from http://dgteam.ilbello.com/index.php?pid=16, under Web panel upgrade.

Make sure you're connected by a a wire as well.

Ok this is wierd. Downloaded the ZIP file which I of course, cannot upload to the router via the control panel. When I go into the file to unzip, there are 12 Disc Imaging Files.

*edit*

Ok I am being a nub but there are three .img files in English. Which one do I want?

*edit*

Ok worked this shizzle out. The 3 files are just versions of the driver so going to choose the one woth the highest number which is 026.

I usually go with the one which has an "o" at the end. 023o I think it is?

I just downloaded the formware update but thought it was stuck so pressed cancel. Just rebooted it and looks like it has updated as I have the Jesus picture at the top of the router manager software page now. :D

It is now saying -

Even better. Many thanks Swifty. Awesome! :)
