In your opinion the best Whisky...

For the love of God, please stop drinking good whisky with coke!

Try a £2 bottle and a decent name with just a very small splash of water. You'll notice the difference. The smell alone would give away a cheap whisky.

i hate whisky, i never drink it unless its the only thing they have.

everyone in punjab (where my family is from) either drinks whisky or home made brew called desi, which tastes like aniseeds, and is supposed to be drunk straight, its horrible.

so on the occasions i have drunk whisky (mostly in punjab), its simply because there was no vodka or failing that bacardi available at the function i was attending.

i tried it in canada because our host was drinking it (rye and coke) and i asked him what it tasted like, he said candy, i tried it and it was just like candy.

whisky tastes awful, smirnoff will do me fine, sometimes get it for as cheap as £10 a litre, but now usually as cheap as £12 a litre, compare that with what you guys pay for whisky and its nothing. i have found coke to be really bad for my teeth though and they are sore after a night out, so now switched to vodka orange.

i was born and stay in scotland, and all my older relatives all drink whisky, yet i hate the stuff.

I've never had actual Indian whisky but my Dad is a big fan of Islay malts and whilst working in India said some of the £2 bottles were easily as good as Bells or the like. Then again as the tax on a 70cl bottle of Bells is £8.58 it's not that surprising.

+1

a bottle of smirnoff in india is £4-5, and that is one of the most expensive drinks you can buy in a normal off license.

india is a big whisky drinking nation, especially punjab, royal stag i think is the most popular one out there and costs like £2 a bottle.

personally, i cant tell the difference between a £2 bottle of whisky from india or a £20 bottle from scotland, ive tried both with coke and they tasted the exact same.

Never tried Indian whisky although from what I heard it's more of a mix between rum and liqueur? While I can certainly tell the difference between single malts, blended scotch whisky all tastes bad to me no matter whether I'm trying house stuff or Johnnie Walker Blue Label. You can tell that it costs more as it doesn't a nasty ethanol smell, but then again all these things have an acquired taste.

Mixing these kind of whisky's with coke does ruin the whole point of the different flavours they have, can try putting a few ice cubes or some water in them if you find them too strong. Certainly not a drink for everyone and a lot do have a very harsh initial taste but it's the flavours and immense 'burning' sensation they leave in your chest afterwards that I enjoy.

I need some more Whisky, and would like to try something new, preferably something that can be found in a local supermarket for under £30 and improves on what I have been drinking (below) in terms of quality. Any suggestions much appreciated :) Cheers

Bells
Glenfiddich
Ballantine's
The Glenlivet (12 year)

Laphroaig and Balvenie DoubleWood would fit the bill and both are getting the thumbs up in this thread. My Dad likes a Highland Park, it's nice enough but I wouldn't go and buy a bottle.

As far as blends go I like a Bells but I might get a battering for saying that :p

A Glenrothes Special Reserve is pretty good at that price too.

im not a whisky drinker, i was just asking for advice for my dad, he drinks it with a splash of water, or just ice, i only drink it when theres no vodka or bacardi and the coke makes it bearable.

im not much of a drinker now anyway, ive pretty much packed it all in, only reserved for special occasions now.
