I've just (an hour ago) bought a new contract on O2 and am porting my Orange number over. The phone (with O2 SIM in) says 'Inactive SIM', will it stay like this until my number ports? Ie. will my O2 contract only start when the Orange one ends and the number is moved?

I should have asked this in the shop! :(

when I ported my number from vodafone to orange I got a temporary number off orange to use untill the port happened.

Give them a ring they will probably do that for you.

Don't worry - O2 provide you with a temp number while yours ports across, this should be active within the next 24 hours.

Simply switch the handset off to allow O2 to connect the SIM to their network and keep trying every couple of hours to see if it's connected (chances are it's probably connected now tbh)

Hope this helps :)

You should continue to use your Orange SIM until it stops working. Then you can switch your SIM card over to the new one, and it should start working.

PS. As far as I know, only Orange and T-Mobile provide temporary numbers for you to use while you wait for a port. O2 and Voda just expect you to start using it once the port is complete. (To my best knowledge, anyway)

O2 provide you with a temp number too - it's just Vodafone that don't.
