Incompatible RAM??

Hi,
Just looking for advice and confirmation in relation to an issue I’m having with my PC build.

Motherboard: Gigabyte Z370 Aorus Gaming K3
CPU: Intel Core i5-8400 2.8GHz Coffee Lake
Memory:
VULCAN T-FORCE 8GB (2X4GB) DDR4 PC4-24000C16 3000MHZ DUAL CHANNEL KIT - GREY (TLGD48G3000)

Originally I had an issue where I was using a kaby lake processor, which isn’t compatible so this was swapped for i5-8400.
When powering on the computer, it sounds like it is starting up, however the screen stays black. On the motherboard the DRAM light is red.
Would this suggest that the RAM is not compatible?? I have tried different slots, one or two sticks.
Everything else appears to be plug in connected as I have disconnected and reconnected all cables.

Thanks in advance for your support.

Try pulling the CMOS battery out for 5 mins and trying it again.
Did you say you out the KabyLake CPU into the z370 board ?
Also try one stick of ram ram in the second left (blank, populated ,blank, blank)

Is a forum rep on here if it is hardware related but hopefully can run through the basics

Also had that board with the Vulcan heatsink version so that ram should work fine.

Hi. Thanks for the reply.

Originally yes, put a Kabylake into the Z370, however nothing happened and after digging around, found that the board only supports Coffe lake. Since installing the new CPU, it goes further into booting, however the red light on DRAM is showing.
I removed the cmos battery for about 10 minutes and tried the memory in various slots.

Same number of pins but the config of the pins is different as well as coffeelake using some pins that weren't used is KabyLake . Might of just been a split second for power to enter the socket for something to go amiss .
Hopefully pulling CMOS and one stick of ram will get board back to square one . If that doesn't work . Power down and try second stick .
Mash away at del to enter bios. I tend also to have GPU removed and just use onboard to get as much hardware out of the way

Hi, thanks for that. Tried that with the same outcome. I believe I know why. I have checked the support doc for the motherboard and the memory isn’t listed on the supported list.

Thanks for helping :)

Mine wasn't support , Vulcan and worked fine on the board ..

And even used 8 Pack 3200z which isn't supported ...

Not sure if Gigabyte rep/gigabyte has come across any issues with the kit of ram or if they have seen damage with KabyLake CPU being powered on their z370 boards

@GIGA-Man

Normally when rammisnt supported you still can go into bios as by default, first boot up is at 2133hz speed and timings to allow boot.
