Inconsiderate & slow drivers

There's been quite a few threads recently on people driving too fast. But at the moment I'm noticing an increased amount of people who are driving incredibly slow, and in some cases dangerously so. This is as well as being completely inconsiderate.

Just the other night I was driving down a long straight road, national speed limit. I was presented with a car doing around 30/40mph so as nothing was coming the other way I indicated, pulled out and overtook them. It was at that point they decided they would use their full beam permanently, in an obvious attempt to try to dazzle me. Dangerous and stupid.

There seems to be a craze at the moment with people generally doing 5/10mph under the speed limit. It's just vexing. You end up with long queues of cars being held up by one person "doing their own speed", then they wonder why people get annoyed and end up making rash driving decisions trying to get past them. Whereas if everyone did the speed limit in the first place it wouldn't happen.

Rant over :p

Maybe they had their full beams on before you overtook them. I've noticed a growing number of people who leave them on full time, completely oblivious.

Yes and the same drivers that do 40 in a 60 limit continue to do 40 in a 30 limit. I've encountered similar behaviour too, pipping their horn and flashing me after I do a safe overtake because they're driving too slow. Makes you want to get out the car and give them a slap, but luckily I have something called self control.

I'm glad it's not just me. And this isn't about condoning speeding or unsafe maneuvers. I'm talking about legitimate overtakes that are well within the highway code guidelines.

Don't get me wrong, there is a time and a place to go under the speed limit. I always go slowly around schools even when there's no 20 sign, and I drive slowly around my own neighbourhood as there are loads of parked cars on the road and kids around.

Maybe they Have never been in that area and are driving in a slower fashion due to being unfamiliar surroundings? I know i stick to the limit or just under in new places especially when there might be speed cameras etc

I also find it hilarious when people do just under the limit going through speed camera, like it's going to flash them doing 30 in a 30 zone, but 27 is definitely safe lol.

To be fair, I was always taught to drive/ride a few mph under the limit for my tests. I rarely do, but I find a good number who still keep it somewhere between the limit and 5mph off it.

Maybe they're trying to save fuel, maybe they're new-ish drivers... who knows. Maybe their night vision isn't as good as yours, or their old headlights are no match for your Xenon HIDs... or they're just driving how they feel safest for the conditions.
I don't even start to sweat it until they're lagging 10+ under for a good way, just in case they have a slower car or something.

If I had a pound for everytime I saw someone brake to a few mph below the speed limit when they're going through a speed camera I'd be a rich man :p

I've even had idiots driving slowly suddenly speed up when I'm overtaking them making a safe legal overtake longer and more dangerous. Luckily while my cars no supercar it's still quick enough to get past these idiots when I need to. I'm talking about people driving around 40 in a 60 limit here not 5 mph below the limit.

If you come across a road blocker pootling at 50% of the speed limit, the only way to overtake is using shock and awe. Exhaust baffles open, drop a few cogs, ensure you have a run up, ensure 8000 rpm plus at the overtake point, ensure change as you pull back in with full sports burble, pull away at pace so any action they chose is an irrelevance. This is morting law handed down for generations.

Usually taxi drivers around me that do it, generally doesn't make a huge difference to my journey but taxi's grind my gears, 15-20mph in a 30 zone, then indicate just before turning off. Only one flash of the indicator bulb mind you, that bulb must last another 20 years else the whole economics of driving a taxi is out the window :p

What's wrong with that? Better to be safe than sorry. I know a lot of people who have been done by static cameras who insist on driving through them at 30 ish. In my mind you would have to be the biggest idiot ever to risk getting done by a visible static camera all for saving 5 seconds of time

In fairness the odd slow driver doesn't really add much onto an overall commute time. I just take it as a personal slight every time one gets in the way, or becomes a prize d1ck when you overtake them.

This is because the driving test in this country is a joke. No situational awareness, no vehicle controls awareness, nothing. I did my license in Holland and my wife did hers here. The two processes aren't even in the same league.

Can't risk it around here, will end up with the rozzers knocking on the door after someone from the dashcam police reports it.

Don't really give 2 hoots if anyone is driving a few MPH below the speed limit. I leave plenty of time for my journey so just relax and enjoy the extra MPG.

Anyone who wants to overtake generally wants to travel above the speed limit anyway, so leave them to it.

My days of getting stressed over something that is going to cost me less than a few minutes of travel time are long gone, life isn't that short!

The last 3 Monday's I've been stuck behind someone who will only do 40 in NSL and then 25 on 30/40 mph roads.

I assume he knows he's doing it as he'll deliberately put his 66 plate BMW in just the right spot so no one can overtake him safely on country lanes resulting in yesterday him having 12 cars stuck behind him.

It would test most people after being stuck behind him for over 10 miles which covers most of my route home.

5mph under isn't that much of an issue, driving home recently on a 60 mph road there was a car going 25. Most have been a train of about 15 odd cars following.
