Hi,

I have a Fujitsu 400GB Spinpoint drive.

When I come to install Windows XP on it from the original XP Pro boot CD it only detects it as a 128GB drive.

I suspect it is an issue of Win XP pre SP2 (CD is original release build).

Disk manager sees the drive as 128GB unless I delete the partition and repartition the drive which I cannot do as it is the boot drive.

What is the easiest way to reclaim the missing space and get Windows detecting the drive correctly.

Cheers

Fantastic,

Just what I was after, info on the problem and link for creating streamlined install :D.

Many thanks all.

i back before vista was released, what i used to do was just make the primary partition 127gb. arrange the rest of the space into 1 or two partitions, depending on the size of the disk.

that way, with lba48 support or not, the primary partition would always be recognized. boot into xp and its the only partition visible on the drive. instlal sp1, reboot, and the rest appear with files intact. easy:) no messing with joining partitions, or worrying about slipstreaming and stuff.

You shouldn't be installing an OS on a partition that big anyway tbh!
Also SP1 sorts out the LBA limit so no need for SP2 if you hate it like me :p
