Incorrectly terminated connections?

I Just moved into a house with internal ethernet wiring, all the cables inside the cabinet are cat5e that go off to the rooms from the patch panel, but some rooms only connect at 100Mbps and others 1gb.
One of the rooms downstairs that I'm using as an office is right below where the cabinet is, so the run of cable should be pretty short and that's a room where I can only connect at 100Mbps

I'm not experienced in internal ethernet wiring, so all I can think of is that the connections at either the patch panel end or to the sockets in rooms are not quite right?

Just wanted to ask before I start pulling off faceplates or I need to check something else.

TIA.

I'd be tempted to buy a cheap Ethernet tester and see what that says. My guess would be that some of the cables have some pairs that aren't punched down correctly.

Gigabit requires all four pairs, 100Mbps only requires two.

As suggested get hold of a cheap tester and a Krone tool and re-punch the pairs that aren't connecting.

It could be they haven't been crimped correctly, In the past I've had to sort issues out where they've paid for a sparky to run the cat5 then they just colour match when it comes to terminating the ends on the cable and not doing it the correct way, do you have physical sockets in your rooms or is it loose cat with a crimped end on?

It could explain your speed issues.

Cheers chaps, I've ordered a tester and punch down tool hopefully that will solve my issue.

Physical sockets Glanza.

I'll wait for the punch down tool to arrive before I start pulling off the faceplates in case any of the wires come out.

I have a NAS connected in one room that's also showing through the UI and when I plug in a laptop that it only connects at 100Mbps, so I thought I'd change over the patch cable as that's something I can do right now and noticed that the one I was using is only 2 pair.
Once I connected a 4 pair cable the laptop said it was then connected at 1Gbps, great I thought, but it won't connect to the internet, and the NAS also won't connect, reconnecting the 2 pair cable and it works again.
The cable comes through a cupboard and I can see that all the outer casing is shredded to hell so I wouldn't be surprised if some of the wires inside are touching or broken, so I'll use the test and see what that says when it arrives, but I'll probably end up just replacing the cable anyway, it's pretty close to the patch panel so should be fairly straight forward.

I also changed over the patch cable in the office and that now says it's connected a 1Gbps, but interestingly the BT home hub 5 shows it at 100Mbps and the Nas at 1Gbps?

Received the tester and punch down tool today, tester showed #4 (solid blue) as not making a good connection, so repunched at either end, all working as it should now.

Thanks for the help chaps.
