Last night I read a post on giantbomb about how lots of xbox live accounts are being compromised recently and that all the jacked accounts have something to do with the FIFA games Article Here

This morning I woke up to 2 emails from MS, both were receipt of payment for 5000 MS points, I immediately tried to log into xbox.com where I was told my password was incorrect,

I managed to change my password and log in, the first thing I noticed was that GTA 4 PC and fifa12 were on my most recently played games, and I had an achievement in fifa 12 for opening 100 ultimate team packs,

I checked my billing history and there had indeed been 2 separate transactions for 5000 MS points and 83 premium gold UT packs had been purchased

I loaded up Fifa and in ultimate team there were a ton of items sold on my trade pile, the added up to around 13000 coins which is nothing tbh and in my watch list there were 3 accrington stanley players all at 5000 buy it now and all from a team called new york city, It looks as if this guy is the hacker

He also sold most of my team which I used my own MS points to get to an 80 rating

What is weird though is that my billing account on xbox.com says that paypal was used but my paypal is linked to an old account with no money in it and I received no emails from paypal with receipts for purchase like usual

I have phoned the bank and they can't check if anything will have gone through until tomorrow, I can only phone MS at 9am and I need to get in touch with EA to see if they will reimburse me for the points spent on the team he sold off

This is a pretty long and mostly ranting post but the gist of it is that everyone should change their passwords (especially if you play FIFA games)

*edit* figured out why paypal went through when I had no money in it, it was linked to my girlfriends account, whoops

I am sorry to hear about the issues you have experienced and for warning fellow Xbox users. Did your EA account password match your XBL password or did you you use different password?

Hmm this happened to one of my friends recently too, Fifa 12 being the last game on his list, and like you, they'd bought loads of points, then all the team addons for it :O

We initially thought it might have been a dodgy Android app he'd used to log onto to his account...

This is one very good reason that I won't attach either a credit card or paypal details to either XBL or PSN accounts. I've got a complex password set and only add points and XBL membership via the scratch and sniff cards.

It makes you wonder how safe account linking is on certain games. Never been tempted to register a credit card, but I have been tempted by Paypal. From what you say I'll stick to the redeeming of codes.

Mine was also hacked last night 10k of points brought and spent on Fifa, I have not even got an xbox 360 anymore it went a year ago.

Why are payments not made at least using the 3 digit security code, its a joke.

It is about time all moved to the WOW set up with the security tag which can be put into the iphone and other phones as well as the fob and generates a number.

Just logged into my ultimate team for PS3 and now have a xbox 360 team of which 6m coins changed hands last night.

Most xbox hacks (note: not all) come about because your hotmail/live account is your Xbox account to all effects. You sign up somewhere, enter your email and probably use the same password.

Next thing you know, account's gone.

I don't use my live password for anything else, and I have never even had a hotmail account,

I have no idea how they got access to my account

Yer but most sites will require you to enter payment info again or at least enter the security code on the back of the card not just allow you free rain on the persons card.

Scary stuff, I hope anyone who has been hacked gets their money back. I've just logged into Xbox.com and made sure I had no payment options on there, which means at least if I get hacked I won't lose any money.

someone at work got hacked recently too, the hacker purchased Zune things, movies and stuff from the associated credit card. Shall ask if they play Fifa.

it took 2months to get a refund of £95 from microsoft when mine got hacked, not that long ago. bought a ps3 because i couldn't use live for a month, i only play poker on the 360 now because of the incompetence of microsoft.

Yeah I have read stories a few months ago that people steal account info and then associate the stolen card info with a new xbox live silver account, buy say 6000 points and then sell the account to people on eBay or whatever with the 6000 points still on it. Nasty business.

I hope MS start cracking down on this stuff. Hopefully the new dashboard due out in a month or so will have increased security or something :(

My gamertag is honestly my pride and joy, as I've had it for years and I would be distraught if it got stolen.

I told the support that all they need to do, as regards stored credit card details is have a secondary password screen (with a unique password). At the moment you just click "add points" and it just does it, whereas if there was a password screen first(like the ps3) it would make the hackers job a lot harder.

I expect a change along them lines in the update, as the support guys mentioned they'd been passing tips of this sort onto the development team.

******* took 5000 points off me and spent them on Fifa 12 player packs or some such ****. Also left me with two achievements for a game I'll never play. First time Ive ever had an account of any sort compromised and the day before Forza 4 came out as well, gutted! it'll be weeks before I get to play that online :(.

I got hacked a month ago. Turds bought over 5000 MS points and bought fifa packs for fifa 11. MS locked my account when i rang them and it took a full 2 months to get a refund, also 1 month of xbox live came out of my account which i was unable to use. Never was refunded for that...

Looking at that article they are blaming (in part) social engineering - is MS support so poor they dont do adequate security checks to verify the person they are talking is the actual owner of the account?

If they indeed are, then surely anyone that uses telephone banking is just at risk? Something doesnt add up here...

I dont think FIFA is to blame per se, just that FUT is a great way to launder money on the consoles as packs are unlimited purchasable low-cost DLC...

ps3ud0

Thing is you can buy accounts online for like $15 which come with 10,000 points. All you download is saved locally and can be access by any account on the xbox. Obviously FIFA is a big one because of the player packs.

Just thought I would add myself to this list, was stupid enough to use the same login for EA and Xbox Live, even though Xbox would rather prefer to think that I've given out details or been on phishing sites.

5000, 2000 and 2000 points purchased with the final one being refunded, which I think scared them off, as the password hadn't changed and the points are still on the account.

All over to Xbox now, they've said it can take anything up to 30 days to investigate, but with the amount of people encountering this wouldn't be surprised if it's longer.

Can only suggest to others to remove any cards you have attached to Live if you have any.
