Increase wifi range help

Hi

I currently use a Linksys WAG54GX2 (802.11g) connected to the PC but the wifi connection to my phone at the end of our house is weak.

Would the best option be:

1) buy a linksys access point to boost the wifi range
2) Upgrade to a 802.11n router/modem - i'm assuming here that range is better but I'm not sure
