Incredibly Unexciting Build

Hey guys, I'm looking for a bit of advice.

Having seen me build my own system, my girlfriend wants me to put something together for her new shop- it's going to sit in the open, so she likes the Bitfenix Prodigy Mini ITX, but other than that it just wants to be as cheap as possible without being totally useless- will be used mainly for showing clients images/documents and answering emails/sending out forms. Probably Office and PS Elements installed, stuff like that.

I would rather use half-decent components so it'll be reliable and reasonably snappy for what she wants, and as silent as possible would be nice, but budget is the main factor.

Thanks in advance!

No need for a monitor or peripherals, I've got suitable bits already- probably windows 8 o.s.-wise. Top budget I would say about £350-400, but if it could come in lower then every little helps at the minute (furnishing a shop is heinously expensive, as it turns out :D).

Thanks.

Does she need an optic bay, and does it have to be the Prodigy case? Personaly I think there are better Mini ITX cases, and smaller.

Cannot see much need for 4 cores, 8gb of memory, or a 450w psu. May not even need 250gb hard drive, 120gb may do, even a basic pentium, probably running stock. I cannot see anything she needs to do within your description that warrants much expendature, though most shops wanting a bit of style and substance will most likely go iPad or iMac. As there is not much else uglier than a small plasticy cheap PC case with a load of wires trailing to a grubby monitor and keyboard within a fresh shop front. Our shops still use iMac 2006 models with 2Ghz 2 core cpu's and 2gb of memory. These things are usually under £250 refurbished on auction sites, it is certainly more suited and elegant than many custom builds, especially with the apple wireless keyboard and mouse and they are very very quiet.

The Prodigy is a biggish case, with fans, and great if you need colour, a few hard drives, a GPU and optic drive, but if your not needing those items a smaller simpler silver case with minimum features may look more elegant within a shop environment.

Price difference between 4 and 8GB of RAM makes it a bit of a no brainer for the sake of £10. Plus if the case is on show I'd spend a bit more on something that looks decent.

I would go for a quad core kabini with 8 gig of ddr3 with a mini itx board. A SSD will provide much of the snappiness in the system. The core count and Ram should speed up multitasking. The low power draw should should make it close to inaudible, and it's very cheap.

Thanks, plenty of food for thought! I did wonder about the case, there's such a wide selection. Might get my OH to sit and have a look through.

Cheers guys!

Agree with Stulid - i'd go for something like this:
