Incremental Backups

aloha


i cloned one of my drives using acronis.

i actually wanted to keep an incremental backup. is there anyway of doing this with out formatting the drive and starting over?

Yes, make another backup, then choose incremental instead of full backup. This will backup any further changes you have made to the drive.
 
But takes quite a while, as it has to check all your data for changes. And don't delete the original file, I think it relies on it...

You're right gumbald, Acronis incremental back-ups depend on every back-up file in the series; i.e. you need from the first to the last file to perform a restore.

Something to bare in mind is that if one of the incremental back-up files is corrupted, then any back-ups taken after that date are useless. It's for this reason that I only do full back-ups and not run the risk of having a corrupted image file.
 
And I'll go back to the "it takes ages" statement... Just take a full backup as often as you can afford the disk space :)
