Independence Day: Resurgence (2016)

It looks good but doesn't look like Independence Day to me. That was such a simple film and it worked. This looks like it's going to one of those films where they squeeze in as much CGI and destruction as possible, sort of like the typical superhero films we're all used to now. I know the first one had both of these, but it wasn't overused like every film today.

The first film was dumb, fun and nicely self-contained so seeing this is just like ehhhhhh what's the point? It's basically just the first film again except humans have better tech and are aware of the threat from the get-go.
 
Will they still use a RS232 port on the spaceship to allow humans to upload a computer virus? Perhaps it will be ransomware as it is the 21st century?


Actually, we are all doomed as USB to serial adapters never work when you most need them.
 
I'd hate to have worked in the aliens IT department, but if they are now protected with anti virus software, I just can't see the human race being much of a match to be honest

Never had an issue, so long as you can find the damn drivers

Hollywood will never pass up the chance to make a largely pointless sequel. I'm more surprised a sequel hasn't happened sooner given the success of the first film and Hollywoods penchant for sequels and reboots.

I don't mind a sequel to film that's silly entertaining nonsense; it's sequels to quality films like Blade Runner, that I'm not keen on.
 
Can't decide if it looks good or if they have just changed it to a generic modern aliens attacking earth action movie. The original never felt like that for some reason
 
Looks pretty exciting to me. I like big explosions and win against all odds type films. The first one was epic. I get the feeling this one is going to be better. Imo of course.
