It's silly to think we'll stop trading. But they might reduce the amount they import from us in favor of another nation. If that costs UK business even only say £300m, surely that's worth it?

Not stop trading as such, But perhaps a hypothetical Post-Brexit Government with a more nationalistic approach might take steps to discourage UK companies from outsourcing

Does it literally go to the Indian government? I suspect not. Some of the funding also look more like loans and equity investments which give a return which then attracts far larger sums of private funding.

Lot's of money is privately donated to charities operating in countries like India. Would those people suddenly decide good causes aren't worth it because their own government is potentially wasting money elsewhere?
