India

I went to India last year for three weeks. Travelled round the north for 2 weeks then chilled out in goa for a week on the beach

Loved all of it except Delhi. But even that became funny the second time I went

Indians are friendly. Everywhere except Delhi this was because they where interested in western life. In delhis this is because they where professional scammers. I imagine the nice people where all busy. Think London but 38 degrees , the tramps are dying instead of drunk and the black cabs are cows.

Goa was great for chilling out. It has island vibes. White beaches, warm water , Fresh fish and 30p lagers.

As for 'Delhi belly' well I guess my stomach wasnt normal but I never had any emergency incidents or anything I couldn't hold in . and I ate anything and everything. The food is just great everywhere . followed the same rules I would follow here.

on the plus side - if you do have an emergency incident with 'delhi belly' when out and about they're quite tolerant about how you deal with it:

:D

A guy I know had to run and have a **** in the sea :D I've never been but from what I gather it's a whole different world when compared to the UK.

its salads you ought to avoid not chicken...

I avoid chicken as you never know how long its been cooked or reheated etc.
From what I've seen in those countries the chickens are kept alive until sold on the market and delivered live to restaurants etc.

Another one to avoid is places with that cooling mist that sprays over you. Hot countries with water tanks on the roof are ideal breeding conditions for legionella and that mist is just right to inhale.

If you make sure whatever you drink is bottled by coca cola or similar, your chances of deli-belly are significantly lower.

Yup it's the water that gets people normally, the mist thing is worth avoiding as mentioned above and drinking water if not in sealed bottles. Salads are a big one to avoid - no good drinking from sealed water bottles if the salad is rinsed in tap water.

Didn't go to the south of India, but would like to at some point. Spent 6 weeks in the north, was awesome.

As for the illness thing, I spent 4 days in a hospital in Delhi with dysentery, which I hadn't even thought of as a thing any more. Mildly annoying that my girlfriend and I were eating the same food in the same places and she was fine, though she did look after me well. On the plus side, the hospital was by far the nicest accommodation we stayed in :p

i've done the North (from West to East), but wanted to find a lovely Southern area I can spend 8 weeks doing a medical elective in!

I am a white British guy who lives in India 6 to 9 months of the year.

If you want to see white sand and a blue ocean....Goa is not the place to go. Very tourist friendly.....sure......and an awesome night life with clubs and beach parties.

More picturesque? Hit up the coconut lagoons in Kerala.....a sight to behold.

In reference to the food. I hate spicy food and curries and I function out here just fine. Focus on South Indian food ( dosa, idli etc) it's very easy on your stomach.

Lots of five star hotels will offer a western cuisine and it's great in my experience.

Do not mess about with water. You will get offered water in a glass wherever you go.....politely refuse. I drink Kinley ( coca cola company) branded mineral only. At home I have RO filter and that's just as good.

Excellent, thanks. I'll look at Kerala!
