After discussion between the moderators we have agreed that these threads appear to be detrimental to the forum

the main reasons being that they stifled discussion, excluded others and attracted trolls

This is certainly not an irreversible decision but we think that it is for the good of the forum and will continue to monitor the situation :)

So you've closed all the 'individual' threads to generate more banter? That didn't come across in the OP.

Stifled discussion + excluded others

Banter being the discussion being stifled and the excluded others being the cause of the banter?

Attracted trolls

The very trolls that are causing the banter?

Forgive me but it seems this change is going to cause the very problems you are trying to solve.

Panzer

banter and trolling are very different things

banter was being stifled due to the inclusive nature of the threads, where as anyone intent on trolling had a single point and a captive audienc

the quality of this forum has deteriorated since these threads started

I must reitterate my dissapointment at this decision. If I wanted to talk about injuries/formations/tactics regarding Liverpool where does it go? A small matter such as a Torres injury doesn't deserve it's own thread or SA would be cluttered with pages on that sort of stuff.

If enough people disagree will you reconsider?

a quick look at this thread show the majority in favour so far

One thread for each team would have become seriously disjointed over time, different topics on the go at one time, replies all over the place, it would have become a right mess.
those threads were seriously messy and difficult for occasional posters

also we were losing the sense of community , Man U fans were talking to Man U fans, Liverpool fans to Liverpool fans and Everton fans to themselves ;)

but could you clarify that all matters regarding team affairs can now get their own individually titled thread or would you rather things like 'evra picked up an ankle strain and is out for a week' or 'sissoko loked unhappy in training today' are not worthy of mention anymore?

That is something that we need to monitor and review as we go along, there were no real issues before these threads existed but yes it is something that we have thought about too

The individual club threads were "interesting enough" and they did get a lot of attention.

from a limited number of people, this forum was a vastly better place before, now I am not saying that these threads were the only reason for this but they do appear to have contributed, some may have liked them but many were alienated and driven away

still i'll happily give the 'old' way a go and obviously i hope it improves the quality of the forum tough personally the Sports Arena is the forum i enjoy most on Ocuk.

thanks, yes lets give it a go, it isn't a personal crusade and if it doesn't work then so be it, we will take a hard line on people trying to make sure it doesn't work though :)

Just joking hence the smiley, alluding to the fact the "complaints" were conveniently for the same reason the threads are being closed.

Don't worry I trust you that that's what they said.

If you see G|mp online ask him, a lot of folks also explained these concerns to him prior to leaving :)

I personally think a poll should have been made before making the decision. If the majority really do think that these threads are detrimental to the forum then the poll would have showed that.
.

A lot of people that have realised the effect are no longer here

Ive mentioned it before but it never got off the ground, would it be possible to have a thread dedicated to injuries (and suspensions)?

doesn't sound unreasonable, we have similar during the transfer windows thoguh even these have been a bit unwieldy at times

the last few days have been stale on this forum with regards to football threads, a result of the closure of the club threads. a distinctly bad move by the mods, regardless of what they might proclaim in my opinion.

feel free to start a thread or two

under the "individual" system if I wanted a quick look at something I had to wade through pages and pages, posts were not in any order that resembled topics and it was very hard work for a more casual poster to get involved and become part of the community

as many have said , nothing is permanent but a couple of weeks is nothing like time needed to make a decision

with all due respect - yet again you have intimated we are throwing tantrums and yet again have failed to pick up on the main points. yes there is a bigger picture... that in the club thread a group of seemingly random musings gels together to stimulate a debate, which would not happen with a single thread. it is not as if many of these topics are separate entities, there is consdierable overlap. in essence even one general football thread would be better to house all these seemingly irreverant comments that often stem into something more.

it may have been fine in the past but i don't think there was ever as much stringent debate on small issues as there was with the club threads. furthermore it's all subjective - many don't think it was broke with the club threads.

of course as mods i respect your decision and of course your motives will be pure (if somewhat misguided in my opinion); i am still going to post whatever happens, it is just a matter of it being different. i just can't believe you can't see the other side

there is no hidden agenda and the reasons explained are the genuine ones, we gave one way a try, lets give the other way a try and then we can see which is best, no one has ever said that this is set in stone forever and of the single thread method turns out to be the best for the forum then that is fine

If you had told us the threads were getting closed because it's easier to moderate individual threads then I for one would have accepted it far easier than all of the BS excuses in the OP.

strangely enough I do appreciate the tone of that post
