Induction at work -Smart casual?

Jeans are just casual, not smart casual. trousers (chords, mole skins, jean shaped cotton trousers, chino type trousers), shirt (and for the love of god ensure it has sleeves) and smart leather shoes. You could wear a blazer or sport coat for extra steeze;)

That's not casual then.

As long as the jeans are not worn and all tattered I don't see the problem.

A decent pair of dark jeans look better than trousers in some cases.

It depends on the company.

The point is he asked for smart casual. i.e. smart, but without a suit, this means trousers, shoes and a shirt.

If someone came to me wearing jeans I'd have to try very hard not to make a first impression of him/her stick.

In the corporate environment it doesn't take much effort to look smart, and it's also just as easy to look like a tramp or a contractor.

Wear a gimp suit and tie a red ball in your mouth.

Seriously...This the modern work attire, they will love you.

That's just smart then, where the hells the casual in that!? :p

for work and professional environment that's casual. A suit and tie is much more formal and typical of a workplace, a pair of trousers and a shirt isn't what I'd call particularly smart anyway.

I think it really depends on the work place / industry.

I would, for the first day, go in smart shoes, trousers / chinos (no jeans, combats, shorts etc), subtle, smart long-sleeved shirt and a sensible tie.

If you are in a creative industry you may well be able to casual it down after seeing the rest of the work place, but this will be your first day, they will form long lasting impressions from that day so it is better to be over dressed than under.

Induction day - your first impression to show yourself.

A suit trousers, shirt, tie and shoes would be fine. Just be clean and smart each day. An unbuttoned collar, no tie and rolled up sleeves if you want a little more casual :D

Think James Bond casual!
