I've got a cheap k&n kit. Haven't notcied anything different but sounds awesome!

Personally.. I'd go for the below.

Green Cotton replacement air filter, you take the lid off your standard airbox and swap the filter out for this one, then pop the lid back on.

Price excludes VAT and I'm told that Green Cotton are better than K&N

No real point in wasting your hard earned moneys on a whole new air intake system

At filtering, probably, but then you might aswell just get an OEM filter for about £6.

K&N panel filters are generally a lot less restrictive, and you don't need to renew them if you service them properly.

VVTi != VVTLi. L stands for Lift, and that makes it like VTEC and MIVEC. No idea if the air filter is different though.

The question you should be asking: do i need one? answer: no.
if you really want to do something, get the auto deflector and the st funnel (or whatver combination it is)

The sound and possible increased throttle response. Maybe I don't NEED one but I certainly want one

K+N cones are uber cheap anyway..

Just take the resonator box off. I had a Typhoon on my ST170, was well mean, but not worth the £270 or so that it cost me

Well I have the resonator box off atm. It sounds a bit more meaty but I was under the impression a cone would sound better.

Did the Typhoon and the resonator off mod sound similar then?

Typhoon was a lot louder you could hear it gobbling in air. As regards any added performance, I had bluefin and a typhoon and it made sa mere 171BHP at P.E. It was a hot muggy day though

K&N and heavily oiled filters are know to kill mafs over on the skoda forum.

I've got a pipercross panel myself (foam, not oiled), seems ok for £30.

Worse thing they did was add that sub fee, compared to STOwners FFOC is pretty much dead in terms of threads posted etc.

Just get a 2nd hand 57i off Ebay. Shame I did know sooner, I ended up binning the typhoon after no payments etc !!!! Would have given it to your for just P&P
