Indy 500 - Alonso

Good race, a lot better than Monaco (my least favourite F1 track, even though it's one of the hardest to drive).

Grats to Sato, I supported him during his F1 days, despite not having a good ride. :)

Alonso's attitude has changed for this switch. He's been so happy compared to F1, and not just the dark McLaren years.

Liberty Media have a lot to do over the next few years. People can bark on about F1 being the pinnacle of motorsport, but it doesn't mean anything if nobody's watching it.

Suppose he managed to prove he is more than capable of competing in this event. At least with this Honda car he was in with a shot of winning until it went bang, unlike his McLaren-Honda, which goes bang if you look at it funny, and when you don't

No doubt he could still have a crack next year if he so wanted.

Wonder if Alonso's participation helped European viewership as well, even with BT's old fashioned approach to modern TV probably hindering UK numbers.

Haven't watched this in years so probably missing something, but one thing that stood out for me compared to F1 was how poor (to an uneducated observer) the pitstops often appeared. Seemed like they were much less well drilled and a few weird things like the guy on front right wheel change would run round in front of the car and stuff afterwards, just looked odd. I guess this may be partly influenced by the pit setup (they don't seem to have the 'unsafe release' concept) but overall I was left thinking they could optimise that a bit. Even stuff like a car would come in and the person doing refuelling would need multiple attempts to slot it in, kinda like a teenager with plenty of enthusiasm but no experience hopping onboard his lady friend for the first time.

tbh it does kind of make even something as mundane as a pit stop an event, in its own way. Don't think it would suit F1 though.

Doesn't Nascar have an even smaller crew?
