Indy 500!!

The video of the finish for those who missed the race:

Crazy way for it to finish up. Congrats to Wheldon, Hildebrand must be absolutely heartbroken.

Cheers for that as i did indeed miss the race, what an ending, poor bloke, but well done to wheldon considering his not had a drive this season. And saying that, Hildebrand replaced wheldon in that car. so quite fitting that.

And i remember an F1 car finishing the line with no wheels after clipping the back of another car, doing a somersult, and landing on its belly skinding over the line. Was some race from the early 90s at monza i think.

Monza '93. The two Minardi cars (Pierluigi Martini and Christian Fittipaldi) were running line astern to the flag, Fittipaldi hit the right-rear wheel of Martini and got one hell of a launch.

Nope

he's appealing, arguing that the caution flag would have come out the moment he crashed. Technically once the caution flag is out the result is frozen and Wheldon wasn't allowed to pass.(apparently lol !)

We'll see how this pans out.

Surely the no passing only affects cars still in the race. As he was the accident then he no longer counts. Otherwise you would end up with everyone parked behind a crashed car unable to pass it as it would count as an 'overtake'.

I think there are rules about cars still being able to move under their own power can still be classified. Otherwise as soon as a car crashes and loses a wing or something, you could argue they were part of the crash and therefore can be overtaken.

He may struggle to argue he was still in control of the car though, seeing as he only had two wheels.
