Hey all, just here with an annoying issue, my cousin gave me her android tablet (it's an MeMO Pad HD 7 ME173X) to have a look at saying that she was constantly getting pop-ups, these popups are pretty large, they take up most of the screen and some even take up the whole screen, the issue I'm having is that even with a factory reset the problem still occurs, and I'm here for any advice.

So after I tried a factory reset from within the tablet I removed the sd card (just in case something was on it) and then hard reset the tablet, Wiping Cache Partition in the process, but this doesnt work - as soon as I connect to the internet I get pop-ups again and it downloads and tries to install random apps (I have install from other sources de-selected so I also get pop ups from android telling me it cant install the apps)

downloaded advast - but it finds nothing, anyone have experience with something like this? It seems like my next step is to find a stock rom and try to re-flash it?
(de-selected the option that saves and restores saved app data if anyone was thinking it may be the cause)

id love to know how to flash the rom too, i have a galaxy tab 2 and its been running like a bag of ****e for a while now, even after a factory reset it still does and it wasnt like this when in first got it

Get ESET off PlayStore and go from there.

Tried to do this - but to activate the trial I have to connect to the internet then enter my email address - not possible - 5 mins in and I've managed to type 6 letters of an email address, too many frequent popups, but I tried lol

This sounds very odd. Can't make head or tails of it given that OP has done all the right things thus far and got no where. Can't work it out.

Okay managed to get all the details in - it does the same thing as avast did - it detects the random apps the malware downloads as threats but does not find the issue thats causing the pop ups etc

Time to google rom flashing on the tablet lol

Can you not hard reset the tablet (most of the time its. With the power off hold volume up and Power buttons. Wait a few seconds then release them.) This should hopefully bring up a menu where you can factory reset. Try googling your tablet make and model hard reset.

This seems to be a nice step by step: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2503668

You need to install Odin: http://odindownload.com/
Then grab the stock image from here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/

If you have installed a custom ROM and it keeps happening after a factory reset then no amount of user applications will fix it. If its a custom ROM then its can be inside that that making it a SYSTEM APP.

If its not a custom ROM then go to the manufactures website and download the factory image and apply the latest up to date ROM.

Havnt installed a custom rom, everything thats happening is on stock (developer options hadnt been revealed) and its happening after factory reset on it, asus website offer 2 source codes but thats it.
