Hi

It appears that Infinity is coming to the deepest, darkest South West in September, but was wondering is there any way to find out where BT are intending to pu t the new cabinets for it?

Have noticed some work just outside where I live, which just happens to be next to two other green cabinets :D but not sure if they are doing repairs or preparing for a third cabinet for the glass cables......

take a picture of the cabinets that are being installed, post them here, and we will be able to tell you if they are FTTC cabs.

Do the cabinets have vents for fans (most FTTC cabs have active cooling)?

BT don't publish the cabinet upgrade locations - they consider the location of their cabinets (and the properties connected to each cabinet) commercially sensitive.

There is no cabinet there yet, just one mahoosive hole in the ground. Wil be keeping an eye on it through the week and see what is happening.

From the size of the hole and also it proximity to the other cabs, i am assuming it is a FTTC cab.

It sounds like your in for the upgrade, the FTTC cabs hold the new DSLAM which was at the exchange, this is then connected with a link cable to the POTS cab where the VDSL2+ signal is injected onto your phone line.

They also run a new Fibre Optic cable in from the exchange and power from a nearby power cable as most of the POTS cabs are passive (no power needed it comes down the twisted pairs)

The line to the house will be a 4 wire ( 2 twisted pair) 1 pair used 1 pair spare for second line or redundancy if the other pair are damaged. This is the copper part of the FTTC link and by the sounds of it your going to get a VERY good speed when they increase it early next year.

We are due to go live in Sept with an estimated speed of 29.9mbps Down and 7mbps Up, BT have been busy with the fibre links last week and this and also new copper links to the POTS boxes!!! :-) :-)

It does sound good, hoever, have just checked on Sam Knows again and it looks like BT have pushed us right until 01 Mar 2012..........guess I will be sticking with my 3Mb O2 until then.......

Didn't they announce in the paper that they were seeking to do an extra push later this year. Something about getting extra funding from the Government (unlikely) to help?
