hi i have a 120g ssd for os and all my programs would like to get a large drive of some sort for storage but want to get maxim performance out of both drives my pc and ssd surport 3g and 6g what would be the best configuration to use and seconed hdd to buy

ssd is acrucal one and have not got mobo yet as waiting for the new ones to come out at the end of this month think it may of bean you that helped me said it would be best to wait to get mobo and get the new chip set one when its out

Well you would connect the SSD to a native intelSATAIII port on a Z68/77 board and do everything you can to avoid Marvel controlled ports..

A mechanical HDD whether it be SATAIII or not cant saturate this connection, even a SATAII port is too much for it, so attach it to a SATAII port on the motherboard along with a optical drive.

Ensure the SATA controller are set to AHCI in the BIOS instead of IDE and you are done.

You could even disable the Marvel controller in the BIOS.

It is, its well marked out in the manuals, should be easy for you to work out which ones are what.

If you get a cheaper Z68/Z77 board then it may not have this chip at all.
 
Why would you want "maximum" performance from a storage drive? The only point of the storage drive is to store data therefore not needing performance. If you're installing games etc, then your SSD has plenty of space.
