I'm doing a unit this semester which uses Ableton and I've never got into this software, in fact I think it's one of the main ones I'm yet to try (Logic, Pro Tools, Cubase, Sonar etc I've used).

I've got a copy of Live Lite that came free with my MIDI keyboard, however I think I should get a full copy as I'm going to be doing a lot of work with it and would like to have it to use for future projects.

I've seen the Live 8 Suite education version for £310 however are there other versions that I should be considering? And is there a massive difference with the Live 8 Suite over Live Lite?

Cheers

if its still how it used to be then live lite just limits the amount of channels/plugins you can use at the same time

i think theres still a 30 day trial which you can use to see if you think its worth buying

i love ableton myself and find its way of doing things really efficient , you should be able to pick up quite a bit just by doing the built in tutorials on the trial

What do you use it for? Recording? DJing? Composing?
Just been watching a few videos with the Akai APC40, damn I want one!

Best DAW i have ever used, I have a 49key Novation SLMKII, Ableton, a couple of VST's and a huge set of samples and that is all you need.

If I won the lotto or when I retire my days as an old man will be spent enjoying that kit.

Yeh it's the former 2 that you mentioned krooton that I want to experiment more with, I use Logic & Pro Tools for recording/production.

Guess I need to have a look at the tutorials and will have a look at the 30 day trial, cheers.

I bought a book and a magazine on ableton that you're welcome to make use of :)
