Info regarding UT3 on PS3 and 360 from Mark Rein

Nice to see that the extra size of Blu Ray is being used in games, something which 360 'Fans' totally and utterly denied would happen. Hopefully MS will keep their word and put the extra content for free on Marketplace.

Lol, I don't think anyone 'utterly denied' it would happen and of course developers are going to use the resources available to them; just that it would't effect games like Bioshock, Mass Effect, GTA IV, Blue Dragon and Halo 3 from being made.

Also have to remember those who don't use online modes. Around 50% of previous UT owners never went online, and it will be a similair number for consoles, in fact, much higher. The PS3 is definitely the more complete experience out of the box here.

To be honest if you don't go online with a UT game you're not getting a complete experience, unless you have LAN parties or whatever really often.

Though at least UT is going to have a single player campaign this time round.

Yes but a lot of people are happy with just playing bots. Everyone knows this. The majority of UT3 activity will be offline, and in this regard the PS3 version will be more complete.

Mass Effect.

It affected this game, remember a thread on here a while back that linked to an article saying how they would have to cut out some of the FMV sequences because they didnt have the space available. Obviously its still being released but i doubt they would deny that if the xbox 360 had a hd dvd drive as standard it would have been a more complete game

I dont see how UT can work on a console with a gamepad tbh, its just too fast paced.

Keyboard and mouse support for PS3 :D

I cant say im surprised at this announcement, lets face it, UT is a big game, and i wouldnt be surprised if its on numerous DVDs for the PC. At the end of the day though the 360s content should still be an awful lot, and if the rest is downloadable i dont see it being too much of a problem, yeah its more hassle, but its better your offered the download for the extra content than told your not getting it at all, as long as it is free.

but surely they cant be expecting everyone to buy one just to play this? that would be ridiculous. I mean UT on the PC you have to be able to do a 180 with a flick of the wrist and you just can't do that with a gamepad (at least not without making other things nigh on impossible)

Im seriously concerned that the console ports are goin to affect the quality of the PC game, I just don't see how they can balance it without seriously nerfing the games speed or giving PS3 users obscene amount of autoaim

I refer you to:
"If we exceed size of the 360s optical disc then we'll have to find alternative ways to get the content to 360 users such as making it downloadable."

MS issued an edict that said if content was available on another platform for free they wouldn't charge for it.
Please read the OP, we'll be getting the maps for free via XBL Downloads if they don't fit on the disc. 360 owners will not miss out.

Your attempt at being a smart arse == fail! :p

From what ive heard both the PS3 and PC ones will be gamespy compatible, which i take it means the PC and PS3 can go online together, as for *** 360 i dont know.

Although i could be totally wrong....

As for gamepads, i dont know. Its certainly not a fair playing field, but i dont know how its going to play out.

I did read it. He clearly states that there might be a few maps less on 360 than is on PS3, regardless of DLC. It also dosent state anything about extra stuff being free, just that it is an option to deliver it. I wasnt trying to be a smart arse, I was just pointing out the obvious.

Dont be so condescending.

Speaking on the forthcoming Unreal Tournament 3 title, which will be released on the PlayStation 3 before the Xbox 360, he warned that "we may have fewer maps on the 360 version…Blu-Ray has definitely given us a lot of legroom."

May have fewer maps? Pretty clear here.

I continue to be disappointed that folks on the internet treat any positive thing we say about one platform as some sort of critique of another platform. <--- This is very relevant to you Kreeeee.

If we exceed size of the 360s optical disc then we'll have to find alternative ways to get the content to 360 users such as making it downloadable. Adding a second DVD to a game like UT3 would be a challenge because when playing online you might not know exactly what map you're going to be playing next and we have to be able to accommodate users of the core system. So does that mean the disc on the 360 might have a map or two less? Possibly although it is too early to tell for sure.

Its possible that it may have a few maps less, again, this seems pretty clear Kreeeee.

So despite you saying this

Kreeeee said:
Why? We'll all get the same content just the 360 users will have to DL some of it.

(he didnt actually say this would definetly happen, he said its a possibility)

and this

I'm not, I think I pretty much finished the discussion with that one post.

(you didnt, you assumed something that may or may not be true)

Probably a good idea if you goto sleep, and read the OP's post in the morning without the rose tinted glasses.

It's clear what you both think, let's not get nasty now fellas.

I'm not trying to say you are being so now, just that it could turn easily :)

Quote of the year for sure.

Not really a big deal for Xbox360 users as they can download the maps they might miss (for free?)

It seems the logical thing for Epic to do is release the extra maps as DLC on the 360, which will obviously alienate the Core users but so be it...

The concerns I would have as a 360 owner is HD space, with all the DLC that is out or coming out (possibly) 20Gig doesn't seem enough especially when you lose 7Gig for the operating system/resources.

And as the 120Gig is £130 retail I can't help think that most 360 owners will have to consider one in the not to distant future which does seem rather short sighted by MS.

Maybe at that stage MS might do a swap service say your 20Gig for a 120Gig + £40, seems like a fair deal?

It'll be enough for DLC for a while, you'll just get people moaning about wanting to fit about 5 demos at the same time alongside the content, which is just stupid.
