My apologies if this has been covered before but a quick look didn't reveal anything.
After having driver issues with an Audigy 2 ZS in Windows 7, I added a Xonar DX to a recent OCUK order.
After installing, I noticed the same as my Audigy 2, that volume was lower overall and I still have to have the knob of my speakers turned up much more than I used to in XP. Sliding the main Windows volume between about 50% and 100% in Windows 7 hardly increases loudness at all, whereas between 0% and 50% gives a linear increase
My music seemed to have no punch; whole tracks sounded the same level. This was especially noticable in tracks starting quietly and building to a crescendo. The music never 'opened up' and it was like someone turned the volume down right at the point where it gets loud.
The only thing I could find on the issue was this post:

There is a reply near the bottom suggesting lowering the Windows speaker volume to around 50%. I tried this, and although the speakers still have to be turned higher than in XP, music has regained its dynamic range.
Why does Windows 7 do this? Does anyone else have this issue?
Can I turn the flipping thing off?!
Thanks in advance
