Infuriating vista issue.

Hi o/

Whenever I delete/move/copy a file, the little file transfer window comes up on screen. Problem is when its finished its task it stays there and doesn't disappear. The only way to get rid of the bloody things is to end the task using task manager. Doing this reboots explorer which doesn't take long but its bloody annoying.

Anyone have this problem and know of a fix? Perhaps there is a way to tell vista to not bring up the little file transfer boxes every time you move/copy/delete something?

Cheers folks.

Thanks for the reply.

None of them appear in the auto-update list and I do have Sp1 installed so I assume I already have them.

It's likely to be a software or driver conflict. When did this start happening and what's changed just before it? Have you made sure all your drivers (mobo etc) are up to date? Tried removing them and letting vista reinstall the ones it thinks should be there?

I at the moment refuse to use vista on the grounds that the gunipigs havn't fount all the bugs yet...

Although, I did try RC1 and 2 on a spare PC... and instantly saw that MS had copied linux's KDE interface style.... (you bad boys!)

My motherboard drivers are up-to-date. Windows update does pick up on some new nforce drivers for my RAID array and SATA HDD's but installing them causes a BSOD on startup that only Windows restore can fix so I haven't bothered updating them. The problem manifested long after I installed Vista anyway.

As for what I installed prior to this happening I've been trying to remember. I don't remember installing any hardware or software that would cause this sort of issue tbh. I had a quick look through event viewer and as far as I can make out the only thing I've installed recently is all the relevant Apple software for my new ipod. Again the problem started after this.

One thing I have done recently is tweaked my services so its possible I've disabled a service that has something to do with file manipulation...

Anyhoo the 2 following images show what the problem is in a bit more detail:

Cheers.

Sorted.

Ironically the fix turned out to be disabling a service, specifically 'Windows Search'. Even better is the fact that it no longer gives me any stupid boxes and having disabled UAC its basically instantaneous with no frills! Hurrah \o/

Cheers for the help folks.

That doesn't really sound like fixing the cause, more like hiding the symptoms (windows search wouldn't cause this issue without there being another problem somewhere else).

I won't even go into the thing of why turning UAC off is a bad idea...

MS had copied linux's KDE interface style

orly?

KDE is designed to to be easier to use for people used to Windows.

"KDE seeks to fulfill the need for an easy to use desktop for UNIX workstations, similar to desktop environments found on Macintosh and Microsoft Windows operating systems"

I found KDE, with each newer revision, to be more and more like Windows, not the other way round ;)

What is a gunipig? How does one fount something?

Pistol Pig! Pistol Pig! Does whatever a pistolpigdoes!

Anyway, what Vista bugs? since SP1 I've yet to encounter any issues and my compy is on 24/7 downloading, gaming, video playing, Media Center-ing and remote desktoping!
