Not for a gaming PC on a budget it isn't.

SSD is a quality of life upgrade. Yes, it makes for a nicer feeling PC but for a gaming PC framerate>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>anything else. With that in mind, the money should be spent on graphics. If there's £40 left over to buy a small SSD for the OS to sit on, sure. It's far from needed though.
 
280x is basically a 7970, so it's marginally faster, but wouldn't exactly make a huge difference. If a 7950 can be had significantly cheaper, get that. If a 280x is only 20 quid more, get that.

I've been offered a free gtx 260 is that worth bothering with?
