Injector Cleaner, Does it work?

Every now and then the Camry starts to misfire and when it does the engine trys to jump out of the engine bay and doing so shakes the enter car worse then the stomach of a fat woman on a trampoline:p

Its not the Spark plugs or the spark leads doing it because they were all changed last service.

When it happens the only thing that will solve it is to really drop it down a gear and give it some right foot lovin' and then all you can smell is the strong smell of petrol and it manages to use absolutely **** loads of it when it happens too.

So after ****ing around and not finding it, and it being a **** of a thing and not doing when the mechanic is looking im taking a guess at a gunked up injector.
Does this sound right?(if not what do you thinks happening?)

And if so would an injector cleaner additive work and help with the problem?

Personally, I'd take the injectors out and get them ultrasonically cleaned. If they are gunked up that bad then additives won't help.

Symptoms don't sound like blocked injectors though, you wouldn't get loads of petrol being used. Sounds more like faulty Coolant temp sensor, or lambda. (Think ECU fault would come up if it was the lambda sensor though.

Not necessarily. A gunked injector won't mist the fuel properly, and the ecu can compensate for the badly-burning charge by adding more. Not saying you're 100% wrong, but he shouldn't rule it out.
 
A mate just got this done @ £50 for all four injectors. This includes all the o-rings and filter etc.. and obviously cleaning.

They also give you a before and after, the flow rate for his seems to have improved nicely and they are more even now across the board.
 
I know on my golf a common problen is the throttle body gets gummed up with crap. The injectors themselves are fine, it's the tb that loses.

It's easy to take the airfilter and piperwork out exposing the tb then attacking it with crab cleaner for a good 5 minutes!

Not sure how Camry goes under the hood, but something like that should do wonders!
