Hello! :)

I have a few questions that are best answered by all of you.
I updated my rig to future proof it for GTA (when they release it grr) and my other games. I should mention that I don’t see so well, so it has been a few weeks in getting to this point.

My Inno3d GTX 970 oc sits at a constant 80c

Both stock and with my modest OC (Afterburner)

The following temps are based on Heaven 4.0 ultra settings:
Run for 45 mins then benchmark'ed I hit 70 fps....

My OC is

Power: 102%
Core clock: 155
Memory Clock: 286

With Custom fan enabled, the fan never exceeded 80% (quite noisy) and a Max temp 81c

With no fan control selected...... 83c and according to afterburner, never exceeded 41% (CPU and case fan is loudest, so card is silent)

Question

What is going on?????

I have my side casing off ATM. With the GPU Temp so high, the CPU temps increases to 70c...
I know that is acceptable but it is the GPU exhaust (and lack of airflow) causing it to rise. (55c with side off) but again the GPU temps are the same.... with or with out...

OC support have told me that the temps are in range and NOT an issue with the card so don’t worry)

I have seen others with high temp Inno3d's and others with cool temps...

Thoughts please

Cheers for the help n comments

I have read all sorts about the Inno3d's, as you say they do run hot, however a lot run warm as well. should it be luck of the draw on what temp you get with what card?

My case is a
http://www.corsair.com/en-gb/carbide-series-spec-01-red-led-mid-tower-gaming-case

It has one 120mm front fan, but I will install another as I have one kicking around on my old case...

the case is on a table, so has all round airflow.

My afterburner settings

Yeah I have invested in Afterburner now, so happy with it currently.

I have only OC'ed it in the last week or so as I was trying to see what temp the GPU could get up to. However always 80c..., stressed, running low stress games (Farming sim 15, Euro truck sim 2) always 80c
Fire streak benchmark ( score 10557) same....

I that is the issue I have with it.

Regardless of how stressful the game, it is always hitting its target temp of 80c, 83c Overclocked.

my stock performance is 9700 fire strike, overclocked 10557 always the same temp,

Heaven 63 80c stock 70 83c OC

GTA 4 80c stock, 83 OC

ETS 2 80c stock 83 OC

even minecraft its running 70c

Regardless of my paranoia (which it seems to be) The 10% from Oc is quite impressive.

This is the first Nvidia card I have bought in 10 years. All my ATI cards ran at 65. However if I am being paranoid, you are all more than welcome to tell me so... :)

cheers

after messing around a bit today with it and reading what you have all said I am more than happy now.
If it wants to stick at 80 then fine.
I will stick another fan in but it is a quiet rig TBH

I only wish I understood why there is so little difference, 1 degree or so, from having the fan at 80% via afterburner and leaving it up to the card to decide and never getting past 41%

That does make the card silent to me as the system fans are louder.... saying that, still much much quieter than my old i7 860....

Having No rear case fan and a GPU fitted with an open air cooler your just asking for trouble with high CPU & GPU temps..

How do you expect the heat build up to get removed from inside your case ? ;)

LOL convection??? :D

OK just spent an hour or so fitting a 100mm fan to the rear of the case by the CPU cooler. (things take much longer now)

and I had a bit of cable management as well... quite chuffed TBH

Anyway

I have re-run the Heaven benchmark. 30 mins then benchmark and my CPU temps have dropped to mid to high 50's... awesome....

GPU is still 83 but I am now OK with that being it's baseline, seeing that I am using the card to manage the fan speed, it still is quieter than the case..

Cheers all

It is,

However mine does not have the brackets.

When it was out this evening, the cooler is un cluttered each end, I have seen this post.

I did check it (in my own way) and it is flush and level.

I am not in any shape currently to confidently re-seat the cooler. so unfortunately for me, I am stuck with it.

Giving me an allen key with the card was a bit weird, but I am not able to use it.

Mouse mat was cool, AC-U was a mistake... LOL

Hi

I put two Noiseblocker NB-eLoop Fan B12-3 fans in the case.

However makes no difference. perhaps a degree of two on GTA 4/AC-U. However CPU much happier.

I am OK that is bounces along at that temp now. It is just a run hot card.

I have no issues with it sitting at that temp for hours and no loss of perfornace.

Cheers

Come on! pics or it didnt happen :p

LOL

OK taken me a while.... However

Cable management is still a pain as its an oldish PSU and the cables are very stiff.

Also there is no way to exhaust the card, so hot air is being pulled up over the CPU cooler.

I could put a 140mm in the front as well but the airflow is obscured by the drive bays.... :)

Its a 4770k at 4.5ghz.

Stock palit jetstream speeds.

I would ask the forum on that as it seems quite low for such a good card...

Have you thought about adding an exhaust fan to your side panel, if it permits?

I used to have 2 fans blowing air in to the side onto the vid card, but switched it have them suck air out, it was a night and day difference.

I have a Powercolor PCS+ 290x OC, and it's @ 71 degrees max at 40% fan speed, which is silent.

I have a windowed side panel so its not possible. :(

As I have said, it's quite happy to be maxed out at that temp, but I see others with much cooler cards. There are a number of people with Inno3d's that run hot and they have changed coolers n stuff, however I am not going to invalidate my warranty...

Otherwise its a great card...
My OC has given me a 10% increase over stock on both heaven and fire strike, so I can't complain...
