Insane CPU Temps..

I removed my stock intel cpu cooler, accidentally wiping a majority of the thermal compound off the heatsink, i replaced it and obviously the temps were quite high, idle around 50c, load over 100.

I applied Akasa thermal adhesive tape to replace the compound to the cpu however im still getting really high temps.

Before i accidentally removed the compound idle was 29c and load was about 70c.

Any ideas?

Thanks

You overclocking, which chip have you got?

Intel stock cooler is pretty bad, especially if your using tape instead of thermal compounds, buy some good compound like Arctic Cooling MX-3.

Is it dusty?

You need ideally to install the heatsink with fresh thermal paste, like MX-3 or Arctic silver.

e3300, was overclock at 3.33GHz and idle was 29c.

but even now at stock 2.5GHz its way hot.

Also not dusty, very clean

Yep don't use tape or a pad on the cpu, as suggested above use MX-3 or AS5, also check to see your other fans in the case, your case airflow could be bad maybe because of dust build up. Also note that the weather is hot so your idle temps will be quite high if the ambient is.

Or if you want, look in the forum marketplace to see if you want a second hand aftermarket cooler

Yep, no thermal paste = poor HSF contact. If your e3300 is anything like mine then the surface isn't exactly flat...

I've got my e3300 stable at 4ghz under a Corsair H50, last night load temps were sub 60 (admittedly this time yesterday they were 66).

Thermal tape is for the likes of attaching heatsinks to RAM on graphics cards etc. It is not designed to attach a CPU heatsink.

Ok thanks.

Thanks for the replies, i'm going to purchase a decent thermal compound and fan.

To be more precise:

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 PRO Rev.2 and Gelid GC-Extreme Cutting Edge Thermal Compound 3.5g

The frezer pro will already come shipped with thermal paste applied if its bought new. Mine did and I found that it was fine for my old e8600.
