What I was trying to outline is that we're actually doing them a favour by creating jobs that they can earn money from. We're helping them live and at a level they're willing to accept for working the hours.

How ignorant are you? Do you seriously think they have any choice in the matter? Perhaps if they were lucky enough to be born into a wealthy family, yours perhaps, then they wouldn't have to work for £27 a week. Whats this crap about them and us, too? Seriously.

The iPod nano costs about £30/unit to produce. They are sold for MUCH more.
...?

Do you have any idea of the sort of profit margin that Microsoft makes on, say, Windows and Office? It is several orders of magnitude greater than what Apple makes on the Ipods. But then, it is software... Oh and then there is services... banks, mobile phones...

It goes.. hardware > software > services. In terms of profitability.

Don't worry, China is on the up! :) Makes me glad to see countries developing.

Yeah it's going to be great when everyone in china can afford cars, TV's, PC's and all the electronic gadgets we have. Pushing up the demand for oil, and other fossil fuels.

Even better when they're education rises, so they can do the support jobs we have here in UK for half the price. So we'll lose production, and the support industry leaving us a bit shafted work wise.

The harsh truth is we need these countrys to stay under developed to continue our way of life. Otherwise the quality of life for the west will fall, as the quality in the east rises. This planet is too small for us all to live a life of luxury, so unless our energy production changes radically I'd rather they stay poor and I have a roof over my head.
