insignia 1.8VVTI

To be fair that gets said every time a new Astra comes out.

I had the misfortune of having to repair my Grandads Vauxhall, which had a major issue due to an incorrectly made part. The clutch fork had been only partly welded and had snapped on one side. The replacement part from the dealers had been modified with extra weld to the weld what was already there (you could tell the difference between the two). I wrote them a really nice letter with loads of pictures, and they just washed their hands off it. I'd never ever touch one again.

Most Astras from 2014 are built in Poland. The 1.8 vvti engine needs to be revved lots to get anything from it. The insignia is a heavy car too and it sounds like it's about to implode when revved hard which is not ideal. It does the job but it's far from the ideal engine. TBH I have always found the Diesel engines or the smaller turbo GM engines better.

I did go out in a new Astra the other day, and to be fair it was MUCH better than the last Astra I went in (around a 2010 one I think), was a decent cabin and didn't drive too bad. I would be happy enough driving one day to day.
