Insomnia 62

I suffer quite bad from it, hence why I'm up now. It's a bit harsh keeping your son up though - let him sleep.

Tips? I'd be asleep if I had any. Don't eat yellow snow.

Main tip (it's been a long long time since I went) if you can, sleep in a travel lodge or similar ;)
Make sure you've got any file sharing off ,and the machines are password protected*.
Don't leave anything small and valuable at your desk, it didn't used to be an issue "back in the day" (I can't remember it being one at any rate), but they've grown a lot and I don't trust anyone :p

Other than that try and get sandwiches/hot food from the local takeaways and supermarkets as when we used to go to the Newbury ones the price on site was a rip off and the quality extremely substandard (things may have changed, this was around '02-05 but the burgers were appalling).

If you post in PC games you might get a better response.

Have fun:)

*When I went the biggest risk of an unlocked machine was one of my clam mates changing desktop pictures/screensavers.

Yes when it started back in 1999 it tended to be groups of mates and clans going. So people would watch out for your stuff. But if I went nowadays I'd assume something would get taken if left.

I get the impression it's more of a show/conference these days rather than an out and out giant LAN party like it was. I doubt he's even taking a computer with him :p

Used to be great in the days of dial up (although when it got to i8 I was lucky enough to have a 512k "cable modem" - remember all the Blueyonder LPB posters everywhere?). Sleeping under desks, playing with clan mates, BOGOF dominos.....

I stopped going with a PC when it got to the late 20's and then totally after 31. When it turned into what it is now it kind of lost the appeal.

Even with broadband speeds now, if it was still a proper "LAN" like it was then I think it would still hold some appeal, but it's morphed into something totally different. I guess that's just a sign of getting older though - not down with the kids anymore.

My Mrs has taken a car full today. Both my daughters and two of the eldests friends. I took the older one a couple of years ago. I thought it was a pile of crap. She seemed moderately enthused. Prob a generational thing. I didn't know any of the You tubers that people were waiting to see. In fact i only knew Turpster from my days playing WOW and listening to the Instance podcast. There was some tournament hearthstone that we watched for a bit and the usual gaming related tat for sale. Quite interesting to see the cosplayers that attend but there weren't a lot of them. All in all Im' sure the kids will enjoy it but the Mrs is gonna be bored out her skull. She never got past Pac Man on the Atari

Couldn't beat a Baggies bacon and sausage baguette in the mornings though :p

Ahhh, yeah I think i7 was my first and I went to i10 which was my last. Slept under the desk, stole a golf flag, won £100 in the TFC semis and personally got the first capture as the underdogs. Good times.

Was it you who defecated in the hole after stealing the flag at i8?

I think it might have been i18 when my TFC clans flag got stolen too..... was that you as well? (We got it back).

P.S what clan?

It wasn't me but I do remember that, ha. I think it might have been a guy called Dan (real and alias).

My clan at that time was www., I also played for LoG and =BC= after that. I was called Strider back then. Don't think I recognise your name (though I'm also terrible with names). Have you changed your alias?

I was an i7 up to about i21 or so, I think?!

It seems be be VERY different now. Was still using same name as my current forum name. We got smashed in CS final by 4k iirc?

I won the toca race driver tourney at one event when it was launched!

I hear its not quite the same nowerdays :(

OK, so we likely "know" each other from then.... I was [NSR]BlackDeath. Remember having strong links with www......

4k were sods to play against. We played them in the early part of the double elimination tournament for the WCG in 2006 and got humped 16-6. Was quite happy to even get 6 rounds :D

Yup, they were essentially pros, I think we won the pistol round, everyone was a bit suprised (was on big screen) then they just turned it on.

Sounds like you did a bit better than us!
