Hi guys.

This morning i ordered a new case and motherboard, so when they arrive tomorrow, i will be changing everything over, and i could do with a few pointers.

firstly, is it possible(i think it is) to keep my RAID0 configuration as i'm changing motherboards?
if so, any tips on how to get it to work?

Secondly, will i need to do a fresh windows install?

This is my current motherboard-

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-402-AS

and this is the one that's coming tomorrow- Not sold on OCUK at the time.

Asus M4A89GTD PRO, AMD 890GX Socket AM3 DVI VGA HDMI 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard

Also, any general tips wouyld be appreciated.

cheers guys

btw the case is the NZXT phantom too:)

It's possible to keep it if you set it up again and the OS isn't on those drive - if it is, you'll be stuffed (see below :p)

While you can sometimes get away with a Windows Repair generally you have to re-install the OS.

Os is on the drives.
Aah well.

just backing up my steam games to an external hdd. Pretty terrible. Says it's going to take 22 hours!!!!

Will this work-
take everything out
connect it all to new mobo with hdd's in same sata slots
go straight into raid controller and set it up as it was on previous board
set odd as boot, and restart, installing OS over old one(if it works)

Or is it wishful thinkng?

Any advice?

btw, i've decided to miss out on next gen CPU's. gonna keep Phenom for a while and bypass bulldozer

It took 8 hours to copy steam folder to my external hdd!! finished at 3 this morning.

Anyway, As OCUK didn't sell the mobo, i ordered both from another company. Only the mobo arrived this morning, so i phoned them and they said that the case is still at depot, and will be delivered on monday:(

i hate it when companies do that:)

If only OCUK had the mobo in!

Quick update, as i've just installed everything on to my new motherboard in my new case:D

I did exactly what i described in post 3, put evrything onto the new motherboard, went straight in ot bios and set raid up again.
Exited bios, and to my suprise(and delight/relief), the "starting windows" screen appears, and a few seconds later, i was on the desktop.

All i had to do was install a few drivers, and everything's back to normal, so i don't have to copy/paste 600gb of steam games and over 1tb of music/photos/video back on to my hdd.

It's exactly the same as it was!!!.
i must have been very lucky, as i expected it to be a right hassle. Probably because the motherboards were both Asus, and similar features on both.
i'm well chuffed:D

Errr... Can't you just install steam again and leave the games downloading overnight? Seems a lot easier than reinstalling from backup.

not really. already downloaded 300 gb of steam games twice in the last 2 months, as i've changed systems. easier to just copy/paste steam folder instead of downloading them all again.
Anyway, it didn't matter anyway, as they are still on the hdd.
