Hi there
Recently I had a few problems, when starting my computer only the power supply would start up, I initially thought it was the motherboard so I replaced it with a new one, it worked fine and then the same thing happened a week later, it turns out it was the power supply, I didn't take this into account as I recently replaced it a few months ago with a cheap generic none brand one. Moral of this story : buy branded psus :) not that none of you dont know that already, just me being lazy trying to cut corners I guess :p

Anyway, i bought a new power supply and put my old board back in the system,
( Asus a8n sli premium )
I installed windows and unlike previous installs I've done it hasn't recognised hardly any of the drivers, there are around 10 unknown devices, very strange as in the past windows detected everything apart from the sound and graphics automatically.

Is this likely to be a hardware problem?
It just striked me as very strange

Thanks for your response butters.
I'm going to test that shortly, i'll let you know how I get on.
This is probably a stupid question but when diagnosing problems I swopped the BIOS batteries from the new board with the older better board.
Is it possible that it may of saved some of the settings from my other board? Because some of the drivers that are showing up in the devices list, e.g. the ethernet adapter, are not common with my board. Also, the device manager isn't detecting the devices when I choose the CD as a source, so I'm thinking maybe it thinks it should be looking for something else? Can anyone shed some light on this? I've reset the BIOS so I thought that would have resolved it.
I realise it's probably not the case but just wanted to make sure.
BTW, the devices that windows never installed seem to be working when I've obtained the drivers through the internet. E.g. , the Ethernet adapater

No, the battery is just that, a battery. It has no memory function of its own.

Also, what version of windows are you installing?
