I have just installed a new Hiper Type R 580watt psu into my system, connected everything in my case and connected it to the mains.

When I flick the switch on the psu at the back I can see the switch is lit up red, so there is power being supplied, however when I press the button at the front of the system absolutely nothing happens.

I have checked all my connections, the main motherboard connector with the 4pin connector along side it is connected, both my hdd's are connected using the same cable and a extender, both my optical drives are connected the same way, my front and rear case fans are connected the same way, by then I had run out of extenders and so my window fan has its own cable.

Oh, before I go any further, I should say why I had to change the psu - my old unit shorted out with a white flash and a bang when I reconnected everything without first turning off the mains power.

Please help me oh wise ocuk pbb'ers!

yeah its definetely in the right place, I checked the motherboard manual and that is the right place for the cable to go, theres a 20 pin cable and a 4 pin cable that slots alongside in it.

would the cpu not being fully inserted into its slot affect the computer not starting up when I click the power button?

I had a struggle with the stock amd hsf in order to replace it with a freezer 64 pro, thats what I was doing when I was fiddling with the computer before the psu shorted out.

Id imagine all I need to get the psu to power up is to plug in the main motherboard connection?

You need to plug in the front panel on/off switch to the motherboard. It's usually along the bottom of the motherboard (next to IDE LED, Power LED etc) It won't switch on unless you connect it up! (or short out the power switch pins quickly)

the front panel switch seems to be connected ok, sadly it seems my motherboard has died :( , this is the second one to die as a result of my tinkering in the space of two months.

oh well, its being taken to the shop tommorrow, to see if they can do anything to sort it out (so that it can be read its obituary).
