Hi guys,

I installed a new processor the AMD 6000 dual core and it all went well. Switched the computer on and booted into windows vista with no problems at all.

So I thought great, I was currently running a dual core 5200 AMD - not a massive upgrade I realise that, my computer score on windows vista based on the minimal component (in this case the processor) was 5.3, so after installing the processor I expected a bigger jump than 5.4 - does that seem normal, if so no problem - just expected a bigger improvement.

Furthermore, the motherboard can identify it is an AMD chip, but can not distinguish what type (i.e the speed) - I have checked the bios and it says something like...AMD processor model unknown. The chip was purchased from over-clockers, do I need to update the bios or something for it to recognise the chip correctly.

I apologise if some of the questions I have asked are simple, I am just starting off in the world of PC building and over-clocking.

My current motherboard is Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe (Socket AM2) nForce 590 SLI MCP Chipset DDR2/800 MBoard w/ Dual 16x PCI-Express

Cheers.

5.4 is pretty good for a dual-core CPU. The e6600's get about the same.

You need a quad-core to get 5.9.

yeh i have a QX6700 and get 5.9 so 5.4 is a good score still

so many people focus on numbers and statistics rather than real world performace.

why is it important to gain an extra vista point? who are you trying to impress here?

your cpu is super fast, that should be enough.

People with scores of 5.9 in Vista are properly a bit lower than what they actually are. I seen on windows website that all the scores are caped at 5.9 just now and they will raise the cap as computer performance increases. Yet again i get 5.2 with a 3800X2 Socket 939. The upgrade seems a bit pointless to me i mean a 5200X2 is plenty for most things just now.
