Installing 2nd HDD and losing CD Drive?

Hi! Trying to install and "old" drive for small backups into my PC, its IDE and so is my floppy drive and CD / DVD drive. My main HDD is SATA, mobo DFI NF3 250Gb.

When I plug in the drive in question, on the secondary IDE channel XP refuses to show my cd drive, I can here it spin up but it never reads. POSTs slowly too. Will it help if I put it on the same cable as the CD, in which case should it be 1st or 2nd on the cable? Drive works fine BTW.

So just to check the drive works fine when it is on its own on the cable?

If so then it sounds like you have a slave/master conflict, either change the jumpers on the back of the drives to be hard drive = master, DVD = slave or vice versa, alternatively you could put it to CS(cable select) as CS will pick for you.

If that doesn't work I'd consider trying a different IDE cable as that could be part of the problem.
