Afternoon all,

I'm installing a sound card for a customer. Installed the card, then XP Home decected it so I began to load the drivers, using the new found hardware box that pops up. Now, here's the problem. Near the end of the driver instalation, it tries to copy a file to the Windows directory. The USB port for the mouse stops working but the computer is still ok. Then it just switches off and restarts it self.

I tried disabling on board sound. Installed using CD software - Also restarts it self.

The customer is running xp home with a Vista pack to make it look like Vista...might that cause it?

Any ideas guys?

Many thanks.

Robert. :(

I would download the latest and current drivers from the makers websites, try those.

Also swap to a PS2 mouse.

Remove that Vista pack, they cause endless problems and have been known to actually corrupt windows to the point of needing a reinstall.

Hope that helps.
