Installing an ATI card after NVIDIA

Hi chaps I am expecting new new graphics card today.

In the past whenever I have had a new card it has been with a clean install of windows.

So, I am currently running windows 7 with an ageing 8600GT and going to be installing a MSI HD 7850.

What do I need to do to makes sure it is done correctly?

Okay so

1. uninstall nvidia drivers
2. let windows install legacy drivers for nvidia card
3. reboot
4. turn off and install new card
5. Install ATI drivers

In that order?


Should I use the MSI disc first then get the lastest card drivers online?

If your CPU is as old as your 8600GT, then you not even remotely giving a challenge to the 7850 yet (duo to CPU bottleneck)

Nah It was a 2 stage upgrade, I have a quad core and 8 gigs of ram now

It seems to be staying rather loud since I stopped playing about 15 minutes ago...

I'm using a X4 II 955 phenom. I'm not fussed if there is a bottleneck as it is much better than what I had before.

It is a little too noisy for my liking though.

I will have to in the future! For now though it seems the only really graphics intensive game is TF2, which today I have maxed out on everything

lol dude...if course games are all you play, you could have just spend £25-£40 on a 2nd hand 8800GT or 5770, or £50 on a new 6670 and it's already job done

Going to have to buy skyrim and BF3 now too me thinks
